No tune required... put your shifter into S mode and select 4 or whatever gear you want to limit too depending on conditions. In S mode, your transmission will not go above whatever gear you have selected. So driving around town at 35mph and S mode in fourth, you will not have the tranny going for 5th or 6th. You will be in a better power band and have some engine braking as well.

I'd just drive it but get a tune if you think that will improve the way the truck drives.

I have driven a few trucks with a 10 spd F-150 and 450 didn't really notice much of a difference between the 10spd or 6spd from Ford. I've only test drove a Ranger with a 10spd can't compare as that may have only been a ten mile trip.

The Toyota 6spd auto might do better if more low end torque was available. I wonder how it would do bolted to the 4.0?

I haven't heard much about the new Tundra 10spd. Whether people like it, don't like it? Or don't really notice a difference from other trucks.

I bought a 2018 automatic for work and while we really like the truck I immediately new that I was getting a manual if I ever purchased one for personal use. The auto seems to always be hunting for the right gear

I also came from the import car scene. My previous car is a 2006 Honda S2000 that I still have. Now having money and space for 2 vehicles, I decided to build the S2000 into a track car and look for another car, but with rear seats.

With the used car market being inflated (specifically looking at Evos, FK8 Civic Type Rs, E46/E90/E92 M3s, F87 M2s), I decided to look for something brand new as long as I can get it without markup. There isn't a brand new sports car that I'm interested in owning other than the GR Corolla, which its lines for getting it for MSRP are full, and I also wanted to try out something else, so I looked into 4x4s.

I agree the Tacoma comes natural to me and it feels great being able to shift gears myself. Not only it's capable off-road, it can tow my sports car to the track. I never seriously thought I'd own a pickup truck, but I love having the Tacoma! I hope for more reliable miles and fun adventures ahead!

Slight out of topic, but Rays Engineering (parent company of Volk Racing, Gram Lights, etc.) makes wheels for our trucks. I know what I'm getting for my truck being an import car guy at heart!

LOL, @RicerRabbit, like you I never thought I'd own a truck; for me at least, it came down to a used 2018 BMW 340i 6MT, a VW GTI/Golf R 6MT, a Cadillac Blackwing 6MT, or the Tacoma 6MT; the Tacoma won.

Dude, you could just buy a tesla… I don’t give a damn what the politicians have invested in… Real cars don’t shift themselves!!! I love to feel the road, hear the exhaust and actually engage in driving myself around… I will be one of those underground rebels on demolition man making gasoline after its outlawed and folks are wondering why electric costs so much … I have a hybrid… it burns gas and oil… I can also hold coffee and shift… honestly will if i lose an arm but I do need two feet and at least one eye…

The more that I drive my 22 MT TRD Sport, the more that I like it. There was a learning curve with the gear ratios. On the expressway today, I got 23 MPG. That was with winter blend gas & snow tires. I never drove a Tacoma with the AT. I had the 10 speed on my 18 F-150 & frankly, I preferred the 6 speed on my 15 F-150. I wanted a non turbo engine like my previous trucks with a stick shift. The Tacoma was the only choice in my case.

Yeah I've always respected trucks, but never seriously considered one until learning what some of my track buddies can do with their trucks.

I can haul random car parts with ease and when I break my car on the track, I can just trailer it back home instead of having to wait for a tow truck to come, if it even would. Super convenient.

Well, technically there is one other choice, the Jeep Gladiator; it is also available with a normally aspirated V6 engine and a 6-Speed Manual. That said, the Gladiator is a completely different animal compared to the Tacoma.

I stand corrected thanks. I wanted a mid-sized truck & the Gladiator was not really what I wanted. I wanted a 6' bed. Besides i had a couple of Jeep products fairly recently & their reliability left much to be desired.

I wouldn’t be sure on that as Toyota just said they are keeping the 2.7 and 3.5 for the start of the 4th gen

In the “ 4th gen Tacoma (2024)+” thread post #835

Carmaker 1 shared the engine update info and I have known him to be a credible source. The 2.7 and 3.5 are confirmed, the manual trans not

He is a credible source, but that thread doesn't have 835 posts. Can you quote the post and link it here?
