Hey guys, just looking for some of you guys’ to give your opinion.

I’ve got my eyes on the lookout for another 2nd Gen Tacoma, something newer with less miles. Not that I need it, but that’s not the point.

I have a 2011 Black TX TRD Prerunner Double Cab 4.0 V6 with 136k miles wondering what I should be able to get for it. Only catch is it does have a rebuilt title due to the previous owner hitting a deer. Market seems to be all over the place, I don’t want to screw anyone and I don’t want to get screwed. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you for reading! Truck will come with everything you see in the picture with the exception of the tent and bed rack. Thanks!

I don’t have many pictures, but there are no scratches or dings. Inside is in excellent condition. No frame rust. No lights on dash. Any other questions just reply!

11 year old truck, salvage title… how is the frame?

Assuming the frame is mint and it runs well, maybe $15k? They’ll probably want more, but you’re not gonna convince me something with that kind of history is worth $20k.

If the frame has significant rust, given the salvage title, I wouldn’t even consider the truck for a market value number.

Edit: Oh I can’t read. You are selling. Well I’ll leave my post unedited lol

    $13k-$15k:confused:

    I didn’t do any research.
I’m just saying that’s what I would value it at.

I mean if it’s what I value the truck at, OP I’ll give you 75 bucks o_O

13-15k seems about right though. Might try listing it for 16 or 17 and see what happens.

$10k,salvage title ,12 year old truck,2 wheel drive, salvage part will turn away most of the buyers as most insurance company's will not insure the truck itself,so the asking/selling price needs too be low.

Why would insurance companies not insure it? I’ve had it insured for my whole ownership with no issue. I could see a bank not wanting to loan money but I can’t see insurance not wanting to cover it. I’m not disagreeing I’m just sincerely asking because I haven’t heard of that. Seems to me like instead of not insuring they’d just jack the price up for the coverage lol

No insurance company will insure a salvage title as far as I am aware, since a vehicle with a salvage title is not roadworthy. But many will insure a rebuilt title. The problem is that most will only provide liability for these rebuilt titles and comprehensive will not be an option. Also the cost for liability will typically be more expensive than a non rebuilt title.

I'm no pro though, this has just been my observations so take it with a grain of salt.

I don't know what is involved, but I have a BIL who owns a body shop. Just about every car/truck he has owned since I've known him, about 35 years, has been a salvage that he rebuilt. I know he has insurance on them. He bought a 2006 F150 with only 600 miles on it in 2006. He drove that truck for 10 years.

nah. several companies will insure all types of branded titles, and offer physical damage coverage. yes you always pay more for prior damages vehicles (even small accidents), but it’s possible. some strict companies will say no. progressive is the best option here.

I’ve had a few rebuilt tilte vehicles never had a issue with insurance. My insurance company did tell me they wouldn’t paid full retail on a total loss. Some banks will not loan on them. My cu will only loan 50% of the value.

I should correct myself. Title is rebuilt, not salvage. Did not realize that or even realize there was a difference to be honest. Learn something new every day

I'm only asking because I am curious, which insurance companies will insure a salvage title? I know many will insure a rebuilt but a salvage title??? Didn't think this was possible since in the eyes of the law a salvage title is not roadworthy as I understand it.

Insurance may ding you on the price of insurance, but the real burn is they will only pay out a percentage of what they would pay if the truck has a clean title. That's why I don't buy comprehensive coverage.

Personally, I feel rebuilt titles are unnecessary and it's horse manure to penalize people for fixing a vehicle. It's either road worthy or it's not. That doesn't mean people shouldn't be made aware of an accident but I've seen people modify their rigs in ways that are worse than many accidents.

I'm driving two rebuilt title vehicles presently, and just sold another that I rebuilt. They total vehicles for damage that can be fixed in a single afternoon in your driveway.

Get the blue book value on your rig, mileage and options included, and expect to get about 25% less. It will probably take longer to sell too as most people have an aversion to good deals on vehicles that are just as roadworthy as the ones with clean titles... just because the title is branded.

It's telling that most of the people I know that drive branded titles keep buying and driving them.
