Red Wing boots would last me a year, year n a half but these shoes be lucky to last a year.
And exactly right about sore feet suck the life right out of a person. 100%

 

My how times have changed in "the new normal"...
My truck was 2 years old with 12K miles -- and I paid almost $7500 less than that.

For years I wore 6" leather boots, US made, comfortable and durable.
They finally got to be just too heavy for the miles I put on every day.

I switched to a Oxford work shoe from Sketchers, they were fairly cheap and I would beat them apart in less than a year but probably 1/3 the weight so a fair trade off to me.

My son was looking at a new Tundra and I was surprised a new 4x4 was only 52k and change.
My daughter has a new Rav4 ordered and just in 3 months 10k saved already.
Another gripe is wife and son sometimes take my words out of context or to extreme sometimes.
Told him I wouldn't trust his Blazer out of city limits. It runs great and new transmission put in less than 10k miles ago, but front suspension needs gone through and front axle seals replaced...might as well do axle shafts and bearings too...a weekend worth of work for me but the way he's just tore it up...
I don't want to work on it anymore!
Had to call mom at wee hours in the morning to yank him out of a mud hole...that kind of stuff.
No worries...I'll try n stop ranting here shortly

Be careful of buying oiled canvas if you're doing hot work. A lot of the oil is NOT fire-resistant. Ask me how I know...

 

The like new Scion we bought and paid cash for with less than 25k miles, he got that pretty tore up too but Toyota reliability right there. He could just put some dedicated snow tires on there and be just fine.

I usually put my leather apron on for grinding and welding to keep from messing up my shirts. Doesn’t help with my sleeves though.
