This color is crazy.....When it's cloudy it looks much closer to how the Acura looks it that photo.

Is it bad that I think the Acura’s orange looks 100000x cooler

Nope! I do too! I still really like the Solar Octane but the Acura orange is much better. We get tons of compliments on the Acura.

I'll have to take pics (it's currently snowing and I'm still getting over a cold) but it seems like Toyota is rushing these SO paint jobs. Under my fuel door and on the tailgate hinge I have grey primer showing. That's my only complaint with the color. I need to pop my hood and see if it has anything similar.

I have the exact same issue and thought the same thing. I also feel like my bed is a different shade.

My paint is uniform everywhere, but anything out of sight seems to have been halfassed.

that’s a little worrying…any other issues? Do you see any solvent pop (little bubbles under the paint)? I’m still waiting on my solar octane and I’m really hoping the paint job isn’t terrible.

a big reason I got rid of my 22 midnight black pro was the horrible paint job. There was a bunch of rough areas, lots of debris under the paint, and a ton of moisture under the clear coat. Also the paint was super uneven…2.5 mils on some spots and almost 5 mils in other spots. The 2022 magnetic gray pro I traded it for actually had a perfect paint job, by any manufacturer standards not just Toyota. It was even and consistently 4.5mils throughout with zero visible defects. So I know Toyota has the ability to do good paint.

I don't have a way to measure it, but visually I've seen no issues with paint other than weak application in out of sight areas. Whether done for speed to meet demand or to Ave a few bucks it's mildly disappointing. I still adore the truck, though.

If it’s not raining when I get home I’ll post some photos of the area I’m seeing with for lack of a better term weak paint.

Issues like these? Both leading edges of the hood where it comes to a point above the headlights have drips. There are also 6 "streaks" under the paint only on the hood. Only visible in direct light. Paint thickness on the areas that we checked were 7-8 mils so I don't think it was a respray

That almost looks like the moisture I had under my clear coat on the hood. Take a heat gun on low heat and see if they disappear. Mine did but it took a ton of work for very little progress.

Also at 7-8mils I’d be weary of a repaint…but maybe not. All the Tacoma hoods I’ve tested the paint was always between 3-3.5mils. But since SO is a pearl it might just be that the paint is thicker than the standard metallics.

My issues are just places with no paint other than some light overspray.

These are the under hood pics. There's grey primer in several places. Also, notice how everything under the hood is kinda dull as well. Not sure, but I don't think there's any clear coat under there.

Then there's behind the seats, fuel door, and the hinges for the doors and tailgate.
    Pardon the snow.

I wonder if the weak paint issue is unique to the SO because they are rushing it, or if they are cutting these corners with all colors in the 2023 model year?

Unfinished areas in non visible portions are standard across all manufacturers. That paint drip seems odd.

This is actually pretty normal. Even my 21 4Runner has some unpainted areas inside the engine bay. They don’t clear coat places like under the hood or the interior bits of the tailgate. I think it just pops out more because of the color.

My tundra didn't have anything near this level of unfinished paint. I'm not horribly worried, and love my truck, though.
