This may sound peculiar to a Southern dweller but I have a favorite snow shovel -- as much as I despise the task.

It was new in the early 80's and unfortunately the edge is worn clean back into the ribs.

In a case of "the sun shining on a dogs @$$ now and then" I found the identical blade without a handle at a yard sale.
It is less worn.

I do too actually, a one piece silicone job. Never again will I have one of the 2 piece ones.

 

If you have a paved driveway and you do not get huge amounts of snow at one time(or you do not mind pushing the snow off a couple times during a larger accumulation storm) you can make a "double" sized shovel with two handles joined together to produce a push system of snow removal that is a REAL time saver.

I did decals on enough semis in the late 90's to early 2000's that I could spot them a mile away, too. Not so much anymore.

I'm thinking my next push shovel with be one of those fancy UHMW blades.

My long-handled aluminum grain scoop shovel is still good for a while.

 

Speaking of snow, this looks like a whole ball of fun coming.

Too heavy.
Most shovels have a sadisticly short handle too it seems.

That is why I like this one so much, light with a long handle.

 

Pushing is easier than lifting. Push the snow to the edge then lift with a smaller, lighter shovel for the final clean-up. That is my technique, when neither the plow or snow blower is working.
