I was exaggerating his rear suspension mods to make the rear stiffer.

Made it stiff enough that with his 1/2in of droop broke a shock stem.... go figure.

id just like to say that i also hate how there is no locker available in 2wd. theres so much fun to be had with a locked diff in 2wd. nothing more embarrassing than a one wheel peel. on my 1st gen i use locker in 2wd all the time. gona have to trash the 3rd gen elocker and swap with a sport axle and arb

I guess I’m going to have to say it.
This whole thread could have been avoided if OP had bought a 2nd Gen:D

not in the slightest. yota owners used to be the dudes banging limiter getting into places where they had no business going. now the stereotypical 3rd gen owner has 15 grand in overland and rtt gear that gets used once a year and drawer full of mustache wax. not all for ops cringy bad drifting fail on a public on ramp but why cant a guy lock the diff and let the rear end slide on fire road or open lot

No spider gears or electronics. Just full send.

I’m not understanding your prose perfectly, but why do you need a locker to drift on a dirt/gravel forest road? I do it all the time in 2wd and 4wd with no locker. I feel the locker makes the truck goofy footed when trying to steer at speed.

Because you'd have to sit there and turn traction control off everytime you start the truck, and in turn would lose all of the boojee comfort features

I had a boss that daily drove his 92 truck, he used to jack up the rear axle after he parked to let it spin back into resting place. Hairy as hell.

I've never heard of Boojee haha, had to google it.

Whenever I have some fun and do some drifting on a dirt road, 2wd and a locked rear makes the rear end much more predictable to me. It breaks free more consistently. ARB Ftw

I suppose it depends on whether your goal is to go around the corner at maximum speed under control or it if to force an uncontrolled over steer at slower than max speed.

My favorite drifting car was my 2001 Subaru with a viscous coupling in the center. It was a lot of fun in the snow. A locked center seems goofy footed in comparison. It tends to understeer too much.

Meh I've daily drove and wheeled a welded rear end for probably 7 years on multiple different toyota rear ends, no need for that.

Maybe we all just have different definitions of “drifting”. Mines just to have fun and get nice and sideways around a corner, it’s not about going fast.

    thanks for the comments
coming from the bmw community i find the taco community more chill and more humorous. i had a n54 that i modded till it blew up stock turbos and i could not pull the engine which is beyond my capacity. some dudes from the bay area came and lowballed me 2k for it. then i got the taco and went into debt at the right time (now) cause yolo and i live in the suburbs the most boring place on earth

so removing the front shaft shaved a good 15-20# off the front half which is a nice weight saving. nothing is shooting out like an axle. while its off i can experiment with diff size tires front and back in 4lo locked rear. on stock tires i ran the truck in wet road to about 65mph in sixth gear redline at 8mpg. first gear is like granny low so just start in 2nd and row thru the gears very quickly. turning, u get the clunking but in a wet road, no damage to truck. probably would blow up drivetrain if i wot thruball the gears on dry road.

looking for earlier gen 2wd "prerunner" with 4.0 or pref 3.4l supercharged, must be manual, with the diff lock. pretty hard to find, maybe a unicorn. theyre ugly too unless lowered with fiberglass and a bunch other mods. the dbl cabs are esp ugly.

with the mods ive done my taco does run fast and does have the power to drift (will post vid of wot run to 113mph).

the stock leaf springs r too soft and i tried add a leaf and to my surprise it not only lifted the truck too much (2-3 inch) but was soft w/o the overload spring. there does not seem to be an aftermarket leaf pack that is both super stiff (no hop) and lifts 0-1 inch.

and why did my fox 2.0 rear shock snap? i didnt even jump it. shud i contact fox, weld it, or trash it? (got them from ebay seller which may be the sus)

the diff lock anytime article tbh is too complicated. im no electrician and once u start talking abt ohms youve lost me

dodge dakota? sorry ive driven those and they are real pos, v8 making 4 cyl power.

and i already know the dealer not gonna touch my truck thats why i did my own oil change even tho its free for two years.

next gonna buy a taco specific obd scanner to see if it can clear tss and other codes- as u can see the whole dash is lit up like christmas
