    Apart from size, it seems to me the next feature that most helps to distinguish the two are the markings on the head.
    Mind you, there are variations within species.

    Goshawks like the deep forests, and I've seen them there from time to time.
    Most often when Grouse hunting.
    Which is appropriate, because supposedly the name "Goshawk" is derived from "Grouse Hawk".
