I had several full size 8 foot box trucks, whenever I use the Tacoma for "truck work" I'm stunned just how small the box actually is, and I have a 6 footer, can't imagine living with the 5 foot job.

I asked for a test drive of a DCLB to see if it fit in my garage…… it did thankfully. I live 25 miles from dealership …… I bought my Sport with them.

Yeah I was thinking about this but unfortunately I’m not that close to a dealership. How tight is your space?

You can try renting other cars with a similar length as the taco. Or rent a regular taco (I've seen a few before) and put some things in the bed/hitch mount to simulate a long bed. 1" would make me pucker each time the garage door came down.... sometimes it moves in the track enough to bump things.

And if you do get mods, it might just push you out too far... Like if you run a hitch normally.

DCLB in my garage. I use a pair of 60 lb sandbags as tire stops at the front end.

I live in the city, and the long bed can be a detriment in tight garages. But at least it's still narrow, I don't know how people drive Tundras and such.

We're all a little spoiled with the backup camera though.

The trick to tight parking is to set yourself up before you're in front of the spot

It's only a foot longer, just get it, you'll get used to it

i couldn't use a truck with only a 5' bed. might as well import a mighty boy kei truck at that point! i admit, i got greedy getting the 4 door over the access cab, but really the extra interior space is nice. really, an f-150 would be better suited for my needs, but my garage has a height limit that's created some interesting obstacles to my vehicle and modification choices.

i've got 18" behind the truck, enough to store some lawn equipment and a snow blower, as long as i'm creative about it. about 0.25-4" to the overhead door depending on how hard i ram the parking block.

imo, the extra bed depth is worth the hassle.

but i would plan to bump that back wall at least a few times! get some foam pads to at least distribute the impact on the bumper and you won't feel so bad

I have only a few inches of space with the longbed parked inside the garage. Backing it in using the rear camera makes it easier for me but when the tent is installed I have to park outside because it’s too tall. I’m happy with the longbed but not opposed to the short bed either.

True, on big enough tires they look good. Stock, they just look weird to me though. I do get frustrated with my 5' bed on a regular basis so I'm sure that extra foot is awesome practically speaking.

truly curious as I’ve never owned a short bed (2 1st gens sc and a 3rd Dclb) what is it specifically that makes the short bed really “that bad”..? because I’ve recently considered one

If it fits, it fits. Regardless of method, anyone can get used to it.

Most of my frustration is when picking up lumber which I do pretty frequently. Anything over 8' requires a lot of tying down which is a hassle. I also have an ARE shell, which I love but it makes things even tighter. It's just not much bed space when I need to use the truck as a truck. I'm vain though and think the short bed looks much better.

understandable if that’s a regular chore, convenience is the original ticket on a truck right? otherwise we would just pull a trailer ; )
I agree with your short bed vanity but only with the 1st gens

Yes I’ve tested the flex of the garage door track probably 1/4 inch play as well as garage brackets that’s all accounted for in my measurements. I think all said I have 3 inches is all. So 1 in the front and 2 in the back. I hope it’s enough!!

DCSB. My garage is way too small. The extra bed space would be nice, but so would more interior room, more hp, ect.

I see it different. I think the short beds look disprortional. If the rear wheels were moved back, even 4" to 6" it would help the look.

I used to park my 2nd Tundra in a very small garage. I had 1 inch in front, maybe 2 inches on the passenger mirror, and about 3 inches in the rear by the automatic overhead door, left me about a foot and a half to get out. I did get used to it, but it was always a slow motion, very focused act, both in and out. Never hit anything in 7 years with the Tundra.
