What known problems are there for the V6 in new Tacoma’s 2023

Dude, people are taking Tacomas around the world. Pretty sure Africa beats Wyoming. Pretty sure Mexico beats Wyoming.
The plastic.pipe works fine. A few failures but not a common issue.

 

What answer do you need to know? If its the reliability of these trucks which is pretty good....there's always the possibility of a lemon. Just depends how picky one is.

The last YEAR of the 3rd gen tacoma will likely be the most reliable year if not one of the most reliable midsize if not any NEW truck currently on the market.

2020+ models had most of the issues taken care of. But occasionally they do drop valves. That's about the only issue left on the 20-23s... it happens at random to the V6 models.

If you wanted pure unadulterated reliability, you can suffer in a 2.7 which is even MORE underpowered than the already underpowered 3.5. That engine has been around since before cell phones were a thing, which sounds like a perfect match for your Wyoming "retreat".

 

This is very profound, I’ve been a mechanic since 1978 and came from the school of Joe Patroni. I could just see him saying the same thing about all machines having quirks.

 

It's like a wheel bearing. Change it out when it starts to fail. Some wheel bearings last 300K. Some 100K. It is what it is.

Hey, I have a 2023 TRD Offroad I can check for you, to satisfy the curiosity.

I don't know which piece you mean. If you can link me a picture of what you mean, I can go look for you and describe the part.

I had a 2020 Tacoma before this, and this one's bed is identical. I have successfully used thread forming screws for composites (think mcmaster 96001A411) to hold D-ring shackles down. A clean pilot hole, and they grip really well.

But, you also have t-slot rails on each bed rail about ~3" below the sides. There's many things you can attach there.

the mpg, acceleration and transmission shift points are so incredible you wont even care about the little things

 

I had a 2018, and over 28k miles the coolant level had dropped by at least 2 inches in the reservoir when measuring cold. Never confirmed why, but I suspected the bypass pipe was the cause for the slow drain since I could never see visible drops on the ground or frame.

Have a 2021 with 35k miles now, and coolant level hasn't moved even slightly in the reservoir.

I've seen from the parts guru on this forum that they updated the bypass pipe part number sometime in 2019 or 2020.

Idk about the last year when the 3rd gen tacoma will be the most reliable. Their still trying to get squared away on these 2023's due to covid. The tacoma's got a be about ready for the 4th gen.

Almost seven years to this day, and I took a leap of faith in purchasing this truck, even after seeing all the negative and derogatory comments by a few individuals determined to destroy the solid reputation TOYOTA has build over many years, in not only building quality vehicles, but standing behind its product.

After all the screams, after all the jumping up & down about what a POS this truck really is, I’ve only had one real verifiable threat, that being the notorious CPS sensors on the first batch.
That’s it, and its been nailed in the butt. And after almost seven years of ownership, no oil seeps anywhere. Nothing, nada!

Imagine what a real POS I might be driving now had I been frighten away by what a few individuals said and had I drove away from the real facts.

Take a tube of plastic weld sealer or duck tape, it brought the astronauts back home from outer space, it may bring you out of the wilderness into a cell service area. And here’s a FuN fact, unlike metal, plastic won’t rust.
