So over the weekend I installed a lift on my truck, and discovered that the shock towers in the rear were pretty damn rusted. On the passenger side, I actually wasn't able to remove the underside bushing support washer as it was seemingly now one part with the shock tower. I ended up just polishing the mating surface and leaving that bushing in place to prevent further damaging to the tower.

All of that being said, I have searched high and low online and am not finding anything outside of custom Long Travel shock towers.

Ultimately I don't intend on going long travel with this truck, so I am reaching out to the board for some suggestions as far as replacing or repairing the existing towers once it is time. Has anyone dealt with or seen this in the past?

if it matters, for the rear lift I just installed Bilstein 5160's with All pro Expedition Leaf Springs.

Thanks a ton for the help in advance!

    Bueller, Bueller!

Anybody out there seen this? Not a chance that I'm the only person who's run into rust issues like this or damaged rear towers from wheeling to hard.

I mean I’ve never seen a rusted out shock mount but I could assume you could have a fab shop whip a new one up and weld it on for you. I’ve never seen aftermarket mounts that just replace the stock one.

That's a great call on the Fab shop. We actually have a custom Toyota specific shop just down the road that is aptly named " A Rusted Development".

They aren't rusted out per say, just moreso than I would like to see on a truck with only 120K on the clock. What's interesting is that the Frame overall is in pretty great condition.

Yeah I was gonna say as well, attach some photos let’s check it out. It may just need a good wire wheel and new coat of paint or something like that.

What the two guys above me said. Use a punch and hammer to knock the old hardware out, wire wheel that SOB, toss some paint on there, and coat the entire truck in Fluid Film.

So, because it was 12:30AM on Saturday, I didn't manage to grab any pictures of the aforementioned Shock tower in its original condition. I just wire brushed the hell out of it and the surrounding surface rust on the frame welds, and sprayed a few coats of Krylon Rust Tough.

It looks good now. After the paint dries for a week or two, spray some Fluid Film or Dollar General WD-40 type stuff on it. Get into the sandwiched areas of the frame so it will wick in.

Those are the All-Pro Expedition leafs with the Wheeler U-bolt flip Kit and Wheeler bumps. I've only driven it a few dozen miles, but man is it a significant ride improvement over stock, especially with the 5160's. Here's a pic of them beside the stock springs, no idea if they were TSBs because I bought the truck with 90k.

I see your 9.5 leaves and raise to 11, lol. I went 5160s as well. Love the setup with my Deaver U402 stage 3. And yeah, those would be considered TSB for an older truck, looks like you have gen 2.5 which came with those stock.
