It's all about automation. Being able to walk away while the machine keeps making parts. That is my ultimate goal.

Check out this guy! He makes a cam buckle. With a 4th axis, Parts gripper, and a flip station he is killing it! fully machined parts in one operation!

Fellow comes in the shop asking about installing an electric water heater.

I tell him the most important thing is to make sure the heater is full before turning on the power "or the elements will burn out immediately".

He comes back the next week to tell me he got it in -- but had to change the elements out...

Rusty: Did you turn on the power before it was full?
Dummy: Well, it was about half full...
R: Didn't I tell you that would happen?
    D: Yes
R: Didn't the heater have a sticker over the wiring box saying that?
    D: Yes
    R: Why???
D: We were in a hurry for the hot water...
R: How did that work out for you? Get out of my shop.

I have to dial you back a touch.

    That was me in 20's.

It's called paying the stupidity tax.

    Like I said much earlier.

All good lessons are either expensive, embarrassing, painful...or all 3.

I hope I've learned a lot and hope I can continue to learn a lot more.

It is nice working by myself now. The expensive and embarrassing parts can be swept under the rug. No witnesses.

The painful part isn't so easy to hide. The wife always seems to know I fucked myself up. This usually compounds the embarrassing part.

The entire county, including both interstates, are flagged as no travel advised.

The commute home should be... entertaining.

The annoying part is that people are always saying, 'You can't fix stupid'.

You can. And... it's really easy. Unfortunately, for some bizarre reason, western society refers to it as 'murder' and says you're a bad person when you fix stupid.

Ya don't realize how long it takes to fill that 40 gallon heater and purge the air. I felt bad for the old 1/2 HP well pump in my house as I was filling that bad boy. Didn't help I had all my plumbing ripped apart as my house never had a hot water heater before.

My house is a bear to get all the air out of it when I shut the water off and drain it. Takes a couple days to finally get it all out! Unfortunately in my setup the water softener is being used as a water filter as well. Worked fine for the old lady who lived here by herself, but I use a shittone more water. Past 5 months water pressure has been ever so slightly been getting lower. I know time is near for it and I only add 3 bags of salt at a time now instead of filling it up. Probably around $800 for a new softener and plumbing. I want to change everything to 3/4 coming off the pressure tank instead of the 1/2 copper now. That gets expensive!

It does, but it's worth it. I changed everything I could to 3/4 when I replumbed my house. basically the only 1/2" left are the risers to the individual tapsets.

In due time I recon. It was fine back in 60's when it was built, but not so much now-adays. It had such an odd setup as I have two sources of water and they tied it in all backwards. Looked like a Windows 98 screen saver till I cut all the mess out

As one gets older seeing gets more difficult.

Today I did a low budget workbench upgrade. The only thing I bought was the LED floodlight bulbs, everything else I had in stock. Hard to get a good picture of a flood light.

    KIMG2748.jpg

62 footcandles on the bench before.

    KIMG2751.jpg

111 FC, almost double with new lights alone.

    KIMG2749.jpg

172 FC with all the room lights on, nice improvement for less than $10 for the bulbs and an hour of puttering.
