I was in a hurry and was going to disconnect the motor leads off the breaker in the panel. I turned off the breaker, but in my rush I landed on #3 phase on another live breaker with an un-insulated screwdriver. Somehow it instantly flew out of my hand sparing me from any injury. I am very lucky, and now I carry an insulated screwdriver in my "crash bag" which is the most common tools to fix what we have.

I was adjusting a 460V pressure switch. I had to lean over and used my other hand to hold onto a high pressure filter. My screwdriver slipped, next thing I know I was being given CPR to bring me back. It hurt for several weeks. I am lucky. But, to be fair, I should have died many times in my career and life. Glad I am still here.

Hand to hand is the dangerous one, heart in the middle and all that...

    Remember the Presto Hot Dogger?
You stuck them on the prongs and plugged it in.
Product liability wasn't such a big industry back then.

i started carrying these with me. the fact that they're in a carrying case keeps them in better shape than just rattling around in the tool bag, and the blade profile is thinner than most other insulated variations, which makes it beneficial to using on some variations of lugs/breakers.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-T...terchangeable-Screwdriver-Set-32288/311525919

and klein finally sells replacement blades! i only harassed the rep about it for 2 years...

At the way back job the night man had a pager (back in those pre-cell phone days).

He just touched a screwdriver to a lug in a 480 disconnect box (that he had verified was dead) when the pager in his left shirt pocket went off - in the vibrate mode.

He proved that an adult male can indeed levitate.

Running into burning buildings when everyone else is running out is inherently dangerous but standing near a medical helicopter when it lifts off and clips a powerline isn't easy to forget..but probably the most dangerous thing is working a scene on a road/highway/interstate in a time when distracted drivers is the norm.

I try to be careful, but sometimes shit happens.

Now that my beard is getting longer I may or may have not almost got it caught in stuff I shouldn't... :anonymous:

School just cancelled for tomorrow. I'm one step closer to staying home!

Except my wife will still have to go in and I always bring her and pick her up because she hates driving in crappy weather so I'll still need to get up regardless.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
In my case that would be even worse .

I have seen the modern machinist sit there with the thousand yard stare.

It comes down to what you like or want.

UND only committed to the late start so far. Not that it matters to me, since I live in Texas…. Wish they’d take me off the weather bulletins

Yeah. I don’t have time to stare while my machine is running. I usually have my Mill and my surface grinder running and then I’m either working on designs and programming at the same time.
