These pennypinching bastards. This inflation is out of control. The five dollar coupon is now eight dollars. That’s more than the meal used to cost without a coupon a year ago.

Also I think the house Tyrell whiskey was one of the best in the Game of Thrones series.

Thinking about selling everything I own and buying a 40' sailboat and just cruising the world until I run out of money at 136 years old

She does and has never done anything for me whatsoever. I think I find that smirk thing in her facial structure extremely off putting.

    But, as always, different strokes.

You have enough money to maintain a sailboat for like 100 years?

Because it's like 5 to 10 million a year for those fucking things. A boat is a hole in the water into which one pours money.

The two happiest days you'll experience with a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

Not for that size sailboat. In general yeah boats suck. But a decent size sailboat isn't 5-10m a year. Wouldn't surprise me if general upkeep was 50k a year on a boat that size. Plus docking fees.

I raced Lightnings for a while, both my own and crewing for others. Tons of fun. Your assessment is mostly accurate.

Several years ago, while sitting on a beach in Florida, I told my wife, "My retirement plan is to buy a 36'-40' sailboat and cruise around the Caribbean. Drink rum, fresh fish, deserted islands/reefs/atolls, next one is never more than 24 hours away, native girls, did I mention rum and fresh fish? Kind of appealing." She said, "I will never step foot on that boat." I said, "Well, to be fair, I hadn't really invited you." We agreed if I get the boat, she gets a condo. I can stop in and visit once in a while.

General upkeep on a 40' monohull at $50k/year seems high. The challenge is in finding a boat already kitted out for cruising and in decent repair to start with. I'd think a bigger challenge is adjusting lifestyle expectations to the minimalist mindset boat living would demand. I'd have to give up all of my synths/keyboards/guitars/etc.

I used to follow some of these dudes, still follow Hugh Henne. I made some money, lost some, but overall was green. I changed my strategy completely because I want to be self reliant, rather than taking calls from Twitter FURUs.

There has been talk of this happening for quite some time, interesting that it came to fruition. I listen to the PGIR podcast with Dan and Hugh. It'll be interesting to see if they mention anything about it...

This is the paradox I have talked about before.

"I make so much money from trading, pay me for access to my methods because I can't afford to give you my methods for free"

If you're making so much from your trading, that I would want to see what you're doing and copy you, why do you need the book sales? :notsure:

Not to mention the old standard way:
Tell 50 people X will happen, tell 50 people Not X will happen.

You are right for 50 people. Of those 50, tell 25 people that Y will happen, tell 25 that Not Y will happen.

You are right for 25 people. Of those 25 people, tell them you will tell them Z or Not Z, but to be paid first - since you were already right for X and Y, they have faith you'll be right on Z.

Yep, I've learned a lot in the past two years. I'm finally profitable, consistently. Small gains, but green is green. I still take losses, mostly due to stupid mistakes or by not following my own rules. Glad I moved away from all that noise, it's much less stressful.

I'll do you one better - just dump it all in VTI :D

I did that math about 18 months ago. I used to do a bunch of ETFs - foreign, mid cap, small cap, blah blah blah blah. Then I used https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-portfolio

Long of the short, dumping it all in an SP500 or similar fund will get me where I want to be, at least compared to the shenanigans I was doing for allocating here there the other place etc. So, the math said "Yeah just doing it all in SP500 fund will also get me there, happily and comfortably." Why spend the effort and shenanigans? Dump it on SPY/VOO, turn on DRIP, and you're done. Since then, my retirements went from target funds to SP500 funds, and I'm just riding those.

I use VTI just because I already had VTI instead of VOO, the ER is MARGINALLY lower than SPY, and it's like VOO (an SP500 fund) with a bit of extra zest. It's like 85% an SP500 fund with a few extra tidbits in there for funsies. But my retirements are SP500 funds, since VTSAX wasn't offered for either of them.

My HSA is in FZROX, zero ER, total market fund. Pretty basic. That one is also similar to VTI, something like 85% SP500, but was the closest I could get in fidelity for my HSA when I did it, there wasn't an SP500/total market fund other than that.
