You hit the nail in the head! The main goal was to offer an aluminum housing that corrects all the plastic housing failure points… there was so much time waiting to have it made I started to think of ways to improve it… first being to make the thermostat replaceable, lots of options…

We did make versions that mimicked the plastic housing with the “fingers”. It was not worth the trouble. The factory spring loaded thermostat proved pretty difficult to swap and it cannot be bought separate… everyone would need to reuse their old thermostat or buy a new plastic housing to rob the thermostat out of it, I was not cool with people not having a complete solution. Lol I think we got it now!

You are correct with regard to the cooler thermostats. We don’t recommend running them unless you are tuned. We offer a 160°(Mishimoto replacement) and a 170°(URD replacement).

As far as which 180° thermostat to run it depends on your climate zone. A 180° standard flow thermostat has no problem keeping your vehicle cool in any climate. The 180° high flow thermostat is going to have greater benefit when in hotter climates 100°+ but it will not adversely affect warm up times, it is still a 180° thermostat.

On another note, there are 180° failsafe thermostats (fail stuck open) as well, I am not a huge fan of those but the option is there. And I can understand why one would prefer to run it in certain situations.

So, I'm not sure if any other S/C'd guys have installed this yet.. or tried to.. but the housing interferes with the S/C belt.

Just got home after picking up the truck from having some work done including having them throw in the new housing while they were in there. Apparently the shop didn't check it very well.. will deal with it/them tomorrow, but wanted to share asap before others ran into this issue and let you know @1GR-FE<3R

Glad you found out. We would have during the engine swap, but were waiting on a 170°, so it missed the window for install.

Was wondering if you guys got to it. Looked to see if you mentioned anything prior to posting. Just going to order a new housing and slap in another 160

Do you think part of housing can be shaved down, say 1/4" or whatever amount you think, without compromising anything strength wise?

I don't honestly. The larger/main housing portion is the biggest issue, but even if that was clearanced enough, it looks as if it would still make contact with the smaller/piping portion. I don't think there's enough material to remove without jeopardizing anything. Just my observations so far.

Well that just sucks. Giant paperweight now and they will be more than a couple for sale shortly from the SC crowd.

I mean.. maybe its possible.. would need to hear from @1GR-FE<3R and his shop. Not sure how much material they have to play with, if any.

Sonovabish. I just got around to revisiting this mod for us boosted boys again and come to find out it's a giant heartbreaker on what is otherwise quite a lovely made billet item. God that sucks. I was actually going to add it to Page 1 but my methodology of waiting for things to clear before adding to the OP prevails. If one of our boys lives by him and he is willing to work with them, perhaps we can get a T-stat version adapted for us boosted boys as well and he will be able to offer two different versions of it. Perhaps?! Who knows!

My hat goes off to @1GR-FE<3R for making this available to the community. STELLAR work Cody, keep up the good work!

Patience folks. As we know, these first design versions were never fitted on supercharged engine. If material is available to be removed without compromising the integrity of the housing, I highly suspect a revision to remove that material will be made. If inadequate material is currently there, slightly altering the affected area internally without compromising flow could happen.

The housing as is a quality item, and the guy selling them has been straightforward so far.

Give it a bit of time, this is not like McDonalds where you instantly get your order redone.
Worse case, you get a refund. Stay excited to get these, so then the OP has desire to make the change vs listening to complainers. It will get worked out.

    100% agree.

It's disappointing, especially to @XPOTRPR, but the fact remains that the piece is really well made, the idea behind changing thermostats in the housing is genius, and it is a product for tacos. Those are all wins.

I'm on board for the revision for sure.

Oh boy, trust me.. I know about revisions. Lol Good things come in time. I'm not upset about it at all tbh.

I told Cody I am more than willing to wait and try a revised housing to do another test fit. The Taco isn't my main my vehicle so I have no problem with it sitting for testing purposes. I myself have sent parts/products to people to get feedback and testing done. It has helped me greatly in the past. So if I can return the favor and help, I will.

This weekend when I get some time, I plan to dig into it a bit more and hopefully get some measurements and better photos.

Sorry for the delay in responding to everyone… we are working on the redesign for the supercharged vehicles… anyone who purchased one for a supercharged 4.0 please be patient and we will gladly swap it out for the redesign!
