I learned my lesson cutting this stuff. The worst spot is where I first started. Cut about a foot using a 3” cut off wheel and my entire garage was filled with smoke.

Jigsaw would have been good. I didn’t think to use it because my piece is so long I wouldn’t have had a way to hold it.

It’s cut now (ended up just cutting half way through and then snapped it) but some spots are really crooked. I’m going to try clamping between some steel and sanding it like you said.

I can only attest to install with the engine removed and changing out the barrels. Which was pretty darn easy. Now @Basikbiker makes offset bushings now so the install should actually be pretty simple. You just have to shorten the steering shaft is all.

L9H, 2010 silverado 1500 motor. right before they went to dod/afm. it has flex fuel injectors which are some of the largest injectors put into a gen 4 motor. the only difference between mine and a ls3 is the exhaust valves/cam/and the ls3 has a forged crank. now that being said i way overpaid for my engine from a truck scrap yard. my roommate picked up a ls2 like a month later for $2500 bare, which i ended up changing almost everything on it anyways.

I'm kinda shocked by how many of you guys are having steering rack issues.

We've never had issues with our tacomas even on beadlocks and 37x13.50s

I agree. I have the slide rack and installed a brand new OEM rack with it. I checked mine yesterday after all this talk and mine is solid as the day I put it on. I abuse the shit out of my truck. @81Trekker can attest to it since my last 2 trips out have been with him and me trying to keep up.

My buddy has over 3k miles of baja pre running on his factory rack from 06 with no mods or bracing. He drives like it like he stole it too

Between overhead, grade 8 hardware, laser cut parts, $8 per foot tubing, and 18+ hours that go into each bumper it really adds up

I wish the economy wasn't in the toilet so I wouldn't have to charge that much.

Literally every material I use has doubled in the last 2 years.

I've considered doing plate bumpers since they're easier to make. Running beads is easy.

    Too many to remember
What kills the racks is the torque steer when in 4wd. I’ve had a couple Raptors and would kill a rack after a weekend in glamis while in 4wd. If I left it in 2wd they would last waaaay longer. The bottom line is if you are into doing hardcore 4wd stuff a rack and pinion setup is a joke. Put a steering box and ram on it any you will never have another issue. Tacoma’s are nice daily drivers and fun for light off roading. If you want to beat the hell out of a truck especially in 4wd then expecting “bolt on parts” to suffice will let you down every time.

Well said, us on east coast i think are the biggest victims of this. Leaving trucks in 4lo with oversized tires doubled locked really does a number on rack.

Support your local fab? I paid about $1400 for mine with replaced plate mounts and tube connectors tied in, frame horns dimple died instead of tube. I got my bumper last year.
