I even went as far as talking to Lexus/Toyota R&D and they said there’s no bypass and this is how their push to start vehicles will fu croon with remote start

    I hate it

They are super paranoid after they got their asses sued for stuck accelerators.

At least GM did remote start properly on my Corvette.

I have a aftermarket alarm(comupstar) with remote start. And it can’t bypass “toyota” RS system.

...Boo Toyota. Ya don't get too many of those, but ya do this morning!

What @TrailRayted said is 100% accurate. I drove a Nissan Altima for years and it acted as expected (having to "confirm" it's you by stepping on brake with fob in pocket)...

It makes no sense to shut everything down and put stress on the starter, waste precious fire-up gas, etc.

    Boo, Toyota.

It does not causes no harm to the car. It isn’t hard on the starter, they are rated for cycles and the new stuff is some insane amount of cycles. It also doesn’t use any additional gas since it’s not a cold start

    I did quote you
You said the truck turning off and restarting repeatedly does no harm to the starter
That they’re made to go through these cycles

I still think the fact that the truck turns off when the door is opened is dumb and unnecessary

How can it be a "safety" feature to shut off the truck when you need to have the fob to open the door?
Dumb feature...Engineers messed that one up. I guess education doesn't necessarily make you smart!

I saw something online about the 22 Tundra doing the same thing (shutting off when door is opened) and got a lot of negative feedback. Toyota is supposed to have a programming fix for this for the new Tundra so hopefully they can do something to fix our Tacomas.

Haha! Er'body chill out. Yes: I put out mis-information about this being bad for the starter. Perhaps that was just ignorance...perhaps I get my jollies from putting out such bad information...who knows?!

The fact remains: it's a stupid feature that serves no purpose, and I think we can all agree on that.

...now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my job as Dr. Fauci's advisor ;)

It was a Ford, but when I used to work for USPS, I'd shut off and restart the mail truck about 100+ times a day. Did that in the same truck for over 6 years, 6 days a week, never once had an issue with the starter. An extra "start" on your Tacoma isn't going to hurt. It's annoying though.

    So little update:

I wonder if they will be able to update Tacomas with stock remote start to work with remote start and drive-off.

I've had a 2013 rav4 that I drove the piss out of with no mechanical problems (radio screen was completely invisiable when the sun was shining and the engine killed after remote start and door open) I had two Tacomas, a 2019 off road and a 2021 sport. Paid a lot of money for the 21 with all the bells and whistles and the radio/nav blacks out when the sun shines (sad). Had to replace the transmission after 3,000 miles in the 19 and so far the 21 is "ok". (general comment: Too bad Toyota is staying with 6 speed transmissions and single exhaust in Tacomas .. nuff said 'bout that) My biggest complaint with all three is the engine kill after a remote start and passing it off as a "safety" feature. I guess Toyota "smart" keys aren't smart enough to know it's you driving the truck. Honda used to do that and wised up. Second BIG complaint with my 21 is the front camera triangle black out .. and that's all Im going to say about that other than it's just .. stupid.
