Newly realized pet peeve while running late to work after being at the vet all morning - when people aimlessly walk across parking lots in the longest possible diagonal fashion blocking cars rather taking the shortest route straight across.

hahaha well the key metrics won't be affected much either way, but yeah something like that. My team is just getting shit on. Our the lead was describing another project we need to do and our principal engineer was like "uhhhh are we sure we can take this project? We're already looking at risk for the February deadline" and I was jus sitting there in my head like "uhhhh we are definitely at risk for the Feb deadline". I don't think we're gonna make it LOL

We're about to get super slow after the holidays, our primary factories and product shipping comes out of China and they're about to go into Chinese New Year, which shuts the whole country down production wise for a couple weeks.

I'm guessing they don't ship you stuff up front so you have enough to stay busy through their break haha

They do to an extent, but there's a steady supply of cargo containers that get dropped off here every few weeks like clockwork (well, until covid and then the cargo ship fiasco) and that's about to halt for a bit. We make a lot of stuff in-house here but just 'first samples', the actual mass production happens over there

It's not a difficulty thing as it's a manpower/time consuming thing. It's grunt work time basically. I did all the complex logic ahead of time which will hopefully expedite the process and make it feasible but still, it's always the devs that get shitted on and expected to still meet timelines even though EVERYONE ELSE was the reason shit got delayed.

fuuuuck that sucks. And I feel you. It's always some shit like "VP xyz announced we're releasing this feature on ABC day without talking to us at all about even building it" and we're like "fuck fuck fuck fuck pivot pivot pivot hurry hurry build it now"

Yeah everything is based off front end web technologies (php/twig, html, css, js) at it's core but the things we develop for most of our clients are interactive digital sales aid that live in a platform called veeva vault with a salesforce integration to veeva crm.

EDIT - They are glorified powerpoint presentations.

I have a love/hate relationship with PHP. The documentation is certainly good at the least.

Do y'all have to tack on new features all the time?

It sounds like something a lot of business would use hahaha making good presentations is a challenge in legacy PowerPoint when it comes to all the flashy shit people expect now hahaha

We're working on one repository that's been private and the team lead just asked that we reveal it to the rest of the team so they can see our pushes
