WHat he said. I also have not left this island in .. well 10 years.. Going to the mainland from here is like walking past a bakery when you're fasting.

There ARE. about 1 million people on an island that is roughly 25? miles long, mostly mountain. So we're pushed into a ring around the mountains for the most part.

That's permanent residents. Some idiots still come here on vacation!

    Tour busses everywhere.

Very VERY high crime rate. Not like washington DC crime. Though murders are going up, still relatively rare and usually drug induced amongst "friends". But its just graffiti and petty theft everywhere. Car theft is considered "public transportation" . Leaving your lawn mower by the road while you go back to get some gas is considered "free take me".

No one speaks english, and those that think they do, speak it horribly.

Biggest reason for being grumpy: I'm due to leave here, wife's in the Air Force and is losing her job due to failing a lanugage test, so life's in limbo. Kids are going to school and the only thing they're learning is "mahalo means thank you" and "hawaiians know how to take care of the earth"
    I'm just done.

It's been SO long since I've been able to walk into a store and say "i'll have the number 1 with cheese" and actually get that. Everyone's an immigrant from the Philippines and not manilla, from tausug and ilocano country. Farm laborers. "no englee no englee"
You know, in the last 3 years they've busted up 3 SLAVE rings out here. Yea... SLAVE rings. Like indentured servitude, camps and threats. People with a camp full of people they shipped over from some remote island telling them they have to pay off the law and their debt for the trip etc. ALso, some recent story about a lady (i use the term loosely) came to hawaii on vacation and ended up being kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. She was kind of an idiot, but still. Its a wonderful place.
My neighborhood is also ringed by sex offenders.

    See.. GRUMPY!

neither but so close its not worth arguing.

EDIT: Oh yea.. fell to dead last in education last year when school year was shortened to something like 150 days. Government considered hawaii not to have public education.

Due to that, private schools are HELLA hard to get into. Have to be on waiting lists and test in. They're almost all located deep in town, I can't get there to drop kids off. IF I was close enough, couldn't get to work.
Yea, time to move. But MAN.. they pay the everliving crap out of us to live out here.

My wife.. USAF enlisted. If she loses her job... we'll be taking a $100k pay cut when we move. Yea.. military is so underpaid. During the few years after 9/11... we were getting checks and boxes of food from charity organizations. Some group shows up at the door "here you go 75 dollar check to the base commissary." meanwhile, collecting.. well its a matter of public record... but, I don't need their money. I was living on the north shore in a gated compound like magnum pi.. but on the north shore. I'd just get higgins to sick the lads on them. Actually in this case, higgins was a 60 year old pot smoker that still lived with his mom. But he was cool.

None near by, but visited one when I was in Columbus.

The service...and I'm not one of these people that expects a lot...absolutely sucked.

The food was good, despite above complaint I would go back.

Now convincing my wife, that may be another story...

    Rrrrrrrrrolling up the rim?

    That would be "dummy" singular.
