Tacoma With a Sled Deck?

Here's my 3rd gen with a steel sled deck on it. Curious if anyone else has done this? Deck is probably 400lbs, and the sled is probably 500lbs. I have heavy duty dakars, airbags, and OME firm struts. Been using this set up for the past 3 winters and it drives great!

Probably will eventually. I got the truck before I got into sledding, and made do with what I had. I do love the tacoma's size for off-roading, but it would be nice to get a full size and have a two place deck and carry two sleds...

 

I never liked pulling sleds into the back of my trucks. Always preferred a trailer if it was an option. I just don't see the advantage of a sled deck vs a trailer. But if it works for you.

 

Cost aside a flatbed would be perfect

I gave it a lot of thought installing a sled deck for my snowmobile, but i already owned a aluma 5x10 utility trailer. It was easier, and less costly to make that trailer haul my sled. Before that i had a tundra with a bed liner where i just used a ramp to drive the sled into the trucks bed. I don't think the trailer, and snowmobile together weigh a hell of a lot over 1000 lbs. My tacoma tows it like its not even there.

 

I've done the trailer route, and still use one if I'm bringing more than one sled, but some of the places we go the trailheads aren't big enough for a trailer, and I personally just find trailers to be a PIA.

Know a few guys that run flatbeds and its dope. For me I do a lot of sled skiing and keeping the bed of my truck usable under the sled deck is nice to able able to carry all of my skis and stuff.

 

Yeah, i found with the trailer it was pretty tight parking at one of the usual spots that i use to park with the tundra with the sled in its bed. With the trailer i have more to think about before unloading. So far it hasn't been a big deal.

 

Makes sense. I trail ride so we're usually at a house or hotel so parkings not an issue.

 

Thats the ugliest front bumper ive ever seen.... but it looks good on your truck.

 

Yesss. Finally someone else who has done it. Some dude in my town has a DCLB with a truck boss sled deck and carries 2 sleds on the daily.

 

It is controversial to say the least, but that's why I like it also, it's good at hitting deer...

 

No THAT is impressive... I am yet to see anyone carry two sleds on a tacoma... Would love to see photos of that...

Yeah it's badass. If you go on their Instagram you'll find short beds and even 1st gens that have sled decks

Yessir, I also contacted the owner to ask about weight. The deck weighs approximately 280lbs, including ramp and tie downs.

 

Damn thats impressive. My deck is steel and is probably pushing 400lbs, plus my ramp is probably about 40lbs.
