The push button for the AC was missing in my truck when I got it. I have purchased 2 different ones off Amazon from different vendors and neither one work. My local NAPA store can't get me one. Is this a dealer only item ?

My buddy with a 3rd gen 4runner has been having this same issue, the aftermarket ones don’t fit right.

I would suggest going to a junk yard and taking as many as you can find as backups.

A year back I bought one of the $7 chinese ones from eBay. At first it didn't want to go in the pins were slightly misaligned from the broken OE one. Used the old one as a guide and tapped it in with a mallet, might need a little persuading to get it to fit.

Chris, I didn't have a problem getting them to fit, they actually went in easy. They just don't turn the AC on. When I bought the truck the AC was always on because the button was missing so you couldn't turn it off.

I bet - if you had to you could make your own switch to function like the OEM one. Have you tested that their is voltage coming into the prongs in there where the switch plugs into?

No, I haven't tested it. When I removed the first one that was bad , I had to tear it apart to remove it. It wasn't a problem to install but it was difficult to get out. I guess I will stop by a dealership and see if I can order a factory part .

That's really odd. It's the normal little rectangle switch? I might have my old OE one somewhere its just missing the clicky part

Check McGeorge Toyota for that part. Recently I have been getting all my parts through them. Fairly reasonable and beat my local dealer every time!

Saw a couple AC panels on the 1st gen part out page on Facebook... probably get it cheap from there I've had good luck from that page before.

I pulled one off a junkyard corolla or camry that also fit. It was longer so it stuck out a bit, but worked just fine. Look for toyotas of the same era.
