Looks like certain regions of Mexico have voted to cancle Day Light Savings Time. Baja California being one of those regions.

I don't know what region the Guanajuato plant is in, but if one plant is practicing DLST, and the other plant is not

That could impact the production workers, and the quality of Tacomas between the two Mexican plants.

yeah its kind of shitty. I am making an appointment at the dealer to actually go over the truck with a tech. The service advisors are clueless. I work in the auto industry so I know they are trying to push it off as a characteristic of the vehicle and when something takes a dump they can charge a ton of money for it to be fixed. I purchased the extended warranty. Curious to see how far that gets me in terms of repair cost. The TSB for the squeaking and front end clunk were never addressed. I am 90% confident the clunking in the front end is from a bad body bushing where the rad support sits. I saw a 22 tacoma that had parts stolen off it and the bushing was dryrot and the truck has 9800 miles on it….

Curious what plant yours was made in? Check VIN and third letter should be Y (Guanajuato) or M (Tijuana)

I disagree with that. I work for Toyota where we build the rav4, Lexus rx and lx and I’m in quality control. I trained workers from the Mississippi plant here. While they may use the same robots and parts everywhere the training of workers and maintenance guys is quite different. We won countless JD power awards and I can tell you quality even here went down over time. Main reason being that Japanese management we had left and now is mainly North American management. I won’t even start with the Japanese workers and management because they are far superior to North Americans in every way. You can even look at other companies like VW and see that quality of vehicles is much worse that are built in Mexico then what is built in Germany. and I’ve been to German auto factories 20 years ago and let me tell you the technology they had back then is only now making its way to us.
japanese cars that are actually built in Japan are far superior in quality. Why do you think Lexus is year after year the most reliable car and every Lexus EXCEPT the ones I mentioned that are built in Canada all others are built in Japan and that’s for a reason. If they started building Lexus in Mexico ( which will never happen by the way) quality would go down.

Is there any difference (geographically) between Mexico and Texas anymore?

    This is the 100% truth.
My made in Japan ‘06 GX470 is FAR better built than my ‘21 Taco. 16 years old and it’s a pleasure to own and drive.

:anonymous: What’s better about it ? I have yet to seen a 10 year old or older Lexus without absolutely cracked to shit leather. Lexus paint is also not grand compared to say Mercedes

As a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep technician I can say regardless of where they are assembled those cars were always screwed together well.
Mexico, USA, Canada plants all put together well (pre pandemic, I’ve since left in 2019). When I was at a Honda dealer the cars built in Marysville Ohio were just as good as Japan built.

Why don’t we just create a general 3rd gen poll and hope we can get some honest data

    a) country of origin
    B) model/year/mileage
    c) list of problems thus far encountered

What’s better about it? I’m talking overall build quality, it’s a night and day difference. The “issues” you noted are wear and tear, not build quality problems. What does a 16 year old Taco with 350K+ km’s look like?!
Just stepping into the Lexus feels like getting into a bank vault, the Taco feels like it’s made from tin foil. The Lexus is smooth, powerful and quiet. By comparison the Taco is none of those.
I’ve debated ripping the Taco cab apart to install sound deadening but it’s not worth the effort.
Other than brakes and a couple of batteries the GX is classic Toyota quality.
    * yes my seat leather cracked, I replaced it 4 years ago cause this one’s a keeper

Paint on my Mercedes isn't great. But it was built in Alabama. It's got more interior rattles than my Nissan Titan.

That’s what impresses me the most about the 16 year old GX, it’s quiet, dead quiet. No rattles, squeaks, nothing.
The paint, well if there are issues the pinstripes and trail damage is hiding it.

A few of the car washes here in San Diego have replaced my Brown Brothers with Middle Easterners. It's slower getting my truck dried when the guy is drying with one hand and smoking a cigarette with the other.

Excellent post. Interesting I was checking out a new Frontier just yesterday on display at Costco. Quad Cab, V6 2wd. $33,000 which I thought wasn't too terribly priced.

I do like the look of the Frontier. Last Nissan I owned was a flatbed Nissan truck, early 1980's. My Samoyed loved riding in the flatbed with the slats up. Dumb dog got so wound up driving down the freeway one day he climbed up on the roof of the cab! Wish I had a photo of that truck.
