1t are nice and sturdy. It literally comes down to what your plan is and usage with the vehicle. I wouldn't wish to build a 1t axle for many reasons which will differ among everyone.

On the other hand, I know guys who have 1t and wish the opposite as well. It goes both ways. Especially those with a 22r/22re rolling around with 1t.

I don’t even care about the “way it should’ve come” aspect. I just want to keep it mostly clean and not have it look like a dedicated crawler with cut to fuck fenders because of how wide tons are. If I could run tons that were in the 65-67 wms range I’d do that. But that puts me in D44 territory. Or cutting down and shaving tons to run 37’s, which sounds fucking awful. Rather just deal with Toyota shit.

Waggy44 are decent up to 37s. Have the same lug pattern as well.

It’s an option. There’s apparently a way to slap the new JK/JL rubicon stuff in them too to beef them up for cheap.

they're not too bad to wrench on either. I'd rather pull apart a 44 on the trail to replace an axle shaft or ujoint than a yota setup because of the fucking birf grease party. though a waggy 44 with chromos or RCVs is spendy

There’s a lot of regeared d44s on marketplace from folks that go to tons. That might be the most bang for your buck. Beats the piss out of trimming super duty axles if you don’t want tons

pre 05 D60 axles are 69.25" WMS, throw on some wheels with 1.5" more backspace and that'll give you the same width as a 66.25" WMS axle with much better scrub radius so you don't have to hack up your fenders as much.

IDK about current price but pre-covid, stock waggy44 were going for 3-5 rack depending on condition. I threw one on my sold DC several years ago and paid 3 bill for it.

Oh wow. I never paid too close attention, I just see a bunch on there. If they’re trussed up with provisions and gears/locker that’s probably not too bad especially considering labor. I was considering doing the gears myself but I’m farming that and the exhaust out. Won’t bother my ego a bit

You can find a stock waggy 44 for about a grand. I’ve seen rubi axles run $4-6k for a stock set.

Just as a reference, so far I am $2,923 into building my SD60 axles front and rear, that includes the price I paid for them from a junkyard, plus new 5.38 ring/pinion gears, master overhaul kits, e-lockers front and rear, and new diff covers.
