So compared to a 3rd Gen 4Runner 3.4 / 6MT the current Taco is basically a rocket ship?

I dunno man, I had no complaints with my 3.4 in my 3rd gen 4runner besides the gas mileage. I think that was one of Toyotas best vehicles ever. Maybe it was a HP to weight ratio thing but those 185 hps could move that 4runner.

Oh I know what you're saying. I have a 99' 3rd gen MT as my daily, but looking at trying to grab a 23' OR DBL cab 6MT before they are no more. My wife has a Highlander with the 3.5 and it was a turd power wise for the first 10k, but has since gotten better.

Can you imagine the super charged 3rd gen 4runners? Those must be ridiculous.

Bumpstarting and ease of maintenance come to mind. Very few people have issues with manual transmissions (yeah, you may need to replace a clutch, but pretty easy in a RWD vehicle). The number of problems I've heard of with autos is legion. I'm not an automatic hater either, FWIW.
Agree about no low end power. Hard on the clutch. I need to purchase a 2Low module.

I went AT and haven't regretted it one bit. Driving my kids around I have enough going on that I don't want to have to shift as well, although if I had gotten a MT my wife wouldn't be asking to drive my truck. Hmm...
