Oh, yeah we got a blizzard last year but I was able to see my lawn within about 3-4 days. We're still in new england but 80% of the time we're south of that rain snow line that seems to follow the mass pike.

Well, apparently not most of you - I'm solidly in the 12-18, though.

My garage has a bib that runs along the wall. No pictures but here's from street view (before we bought, this is 2011). There WAS a copper line running along that wall to a bib. One February morning I woke up to someone not closing the garage door overnight. I didn't think anything of it, closed the door and went on my way to work. Wife calls me later "OH MY GOD THERE'S WATER SPRAYING EVERYWHERE!"

Killed the main, fixed the burst. Turn it on. There's another burst I hadn't seen. Cut, cap, wait until spring. Should have run Pex from the start. Now it's Pex WITH a drain ball valve in the crawlspace for the winters.

Which is actually a good reminder I need to do it. I think we're about cooked for the year, that'll do.

Did they think they were building a house in Florida or something? If I remember to always shut the door, my garage generally stays above freezing but definitely not always. When we've had prolonged 0° or negative weather I've seen it drop into the teens. My little 6000 watt shop heater really struggles to bring it up from those temperatures too.

Don't know. It was the first thing the inspector noticed that it could freeze. The garage stays well above freezing, so I wasn't much concerned. But then the door was left open one night.

And of course it was one of the 2-3 nights a year it dips down to 0° - otherwise most nights stays up toward 20-30 here.

Whatever. It's pex now and has a drain and a dedicated valve in the crawl space, it used to have a second valve somewhere in the garage backing the living room for "winterization". Shenanigans. Ball valve with a clean out in the crawlspace now.

The way some people up here drive in wet weather you'd think that they lived in the Sahara desert and had never seen water before.
