Random Orbital Sander?

 

I’ve got two of those. Looking for a hand sander for the finer jobs

maybe I’m crazy but the last bit of sanding I prefer to do by hand lol

I like these, they fit a 1/4 sheet nicely and don't hurt the hand.

 

Normally I just cut a sheet of paper in half and do a tri-fold. But I picked up these at Rockler for one of my last projects and I really like them.

They take the Velcro sandpaper that is used on an orbital which is convenient

Hardwoods just arrived for my cutting boards.

 

Just cut up more olive wood - this time for belt buckles.

 

Belt buckles? That’s gonna be neat looking, got any pics?

 

I literally just cut those, so…that one? I inherited a wooden Masonic belt buckle from my FIL (who was also a Mason) and want to expand my selection. This is my first attempt, but I suspect it will be far from the last.

I like that the minor metal parts (Tandy leather belt hook) don’t set off the metal detector at work, so I don’t have to remove my belt. My son works in the same place and he has to remove his belt. This would help him out and keep his belt on (and pants up).

The bonus is that it’s olive wood from a tree my FIL planted many years ago, so it’s got some sentimental value.

Day 2: initial rasp clean-up and shaping done. They’re getting interesting as that grain comes out, especially that end piece with the knot.

 

I’ve never really built anything out of a pallet but I found a nice rustic looking oak one, perfect timing as I’d been wanting to make a wood frame for my dartboard, here it is

 

Here is a maple burl veneer over 1/4 baltic birch plywood. Vacuum veneered 4 consecutive fliches. Walnut single board, with curly maple splines.

I tried to mortise the hinges by hand. They are about a 64th off. I also blew out the rounded corners on the hinge mortises. I should of made a jig and used a router, but I want to get better at hand detail work.
Anyway. I am happy with it, but I have a few things I can't undo, that I didn't do very well.

 

Is it hard to veneer? I have thought of getting into that to repair some pieces of furniture I have.

 

I have the roar-rocket bend it out of thin air hand vacuum bag and pump kit.
It is not hard, but it is a bit fiddly.
