Wow, someone on an internet forum acknowledged that they were wrong! I'm impressed. Bravo good soul.

Had same problem same code p11ec00 at 16,000 miles and now 40,000 miles. On my second replacement bank 1 head cylinder and intake and exhaust valves. Problem wasn’t solved. I have a 2021 off-road. Have you had any more problems? And what exactly did they replace. Just wanted to compare. My truck is in the shop has we speak. Haven’t found anybody dealing with this defect twice.

Typically the head and the valves on the one affected cylinder are all that is replaced. They usually move the other old valves over to the new head.

I don’t know how yours had the valve damage from clashing or whatever they said it had. I would think timing would have to skip for that to be the problem. Typically the P11 codes indicate an exhaust valve “burned” and stopped sealing. Nobody knows why it happens on this engine though. 7 digit trouble codes are newer and really only started around the era of the 2016+ Tacoma. Maybe older trucks still had these issues but weren’t smart enough to detect it?

Still, the P11 fault usually ends up in the affected cylinder not having as much compression in a compression test, so there truly is something wrong if the code is being set. Unfortunately there is nothing in the rest of the engine like the block or anything to blame this second fault on.

You are the first I've heard of having a second occurrence, that sucks! My personal opinion for what it's worth is that because it's always #1, I believe it's a function of the casting of the head around the valve seat affecting heat transfer and while they may have altered their machining process to address it, isn't a perfect solution and cases like yours may still occur.

Small correction, not always #1, but a lot of the time it is. #1 and #3 are most common, but there has been at least a case or two of all the others. Seen a few manual transmission trucks for #2 (no idea why MT but been like 3 of them reported and have seen no reported manuals for any of the other cylinders, coincidence maybe), and then maybe 1-2 cases of #4, #5, #6.

The part I don't get is I think most of the parts including even cylinder heads? are shared with the other 2GR-FKS motors and I'm only aware of Tacoma and Highlander having the issue.

Thanks for the correction. Prior to having the issue, all the threads I viewed only mentioned #1 but after mine was fixed I've not followed any of those threads. That certainly complicates any hope of understanding the true nature of the problem as well as why it's occurring only in certain vehicles. It's also unfortunate that Toyota is not more forthcoming on the issue. I also really believe they should warranty any replaced heads.

Just wanted to post to include my Taco.

2018 Tacoma, P11EC00 -- happened at 66k miles. Burnt valve in cylinder #1.

I got extended warranty cover it. It would have cost about $8k from a dealership for a new cylinder head + all other parts + install.
