We've all seen the Youtube videos on the Tacomas that have gone 1 million miles with "just ordinary maintenance" (no mention about replacing timing chains or the plastic chain guides).

I just turned over 200,000 miles on my 1996 2.4, and I fully plan to get another 200,000 miles (I have to, because I am poor). Is it possible to do nothing to my timing chain or guides for 400,000 miles?

How many miles do you have on your original chain and guides?

Can I replace the timing chain plastic guides without tearing apart the entire front end of the engine?

    Thanks

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Assuming oil changes have been done on time, the chain will last the life of the motor. My corolla had 880k when it was totaled with its original chain

No !! If your pulling things apart you may as well do everything.

Some drop the oil pan others pull the head .

Trying to not pull either one or the other will leak.

The weak point on 2rz/3rz isnt the time chain or guides......
.....its the Harmonic balancer.......oil pump gasket.......
these you want to keep an eye on.....

    and dont want to overheat.......ever........

the denso radiatior when its brandnew....is barely up to the task.......
for a truck radiator....its kinda of dinky.......
coolant problems have junked these more than all others combined.......
well that and just not changing the oil....I mean its a toyota after all.....
to bad some of their owners arent toyota either......crzy ass.......
