Tacoma Vs. Rivian

That’s a joke. Tacoma interior quality is fine for a budget mass produced truck but there’s nothing nice about it. I tow more than a Tacoma is rated for twice a week with my Rivian. It tows better than any other truck I’ve used, including HD diesels. Yes, range towing is a killer but in actual ease of towing the EV is far and away the best.

 

And what is the answer to getting off carbon based fuels? Also, California does not want to go 'all electric' by 2035. They are just restricting the sales of NEW gas passenger vehicles by 2035.

 

I don’t drive an EV as the answer to anything. I drive one because I want to.

 

I have seen Tacoma's interiors as nice as a Rivian, not a stock Tacoma. Far as towing goes the only thing you got right is the limited range which means a powerstroke wins again.

I do not know what the answer is but cold turkey from petroleum to technologies that are not as proofed does not seem logical. California shoots itself in the foot continuously with bad policies, you just pointed out another one. Are you aware that carbon is one of the four most abundant elements in the universe?

Hit or miss but more hit than miss if that makes sense. Couple buddies have newer ones and the rich folks I guide for have them. Older ones are not as nice as the newer ones IMO.

 

Unless you’ve actually done it your opinion literally means nothing. I tow with this twice a week, you’ve ridden in one twice. I can tell you that no other truck performs as well when towing, including a power stroke.

Who is going cold turkey from petrol? Gas cars will be around and gas will be sold long after our kids kids are gone. So far no state is going gas free.

No I did not say I have ridden in one twice, I said I have been in two different Rivians. Neither owner gets them dirty. I also do not know anyone that tows professionally that would ever use a vehicle with built in UN-reliability(range).

Reminds me of the scene out of Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid when Paul Newman is riding the bike and then throws the bike in the creek. At some point, we will have fully developed tech to move us past gasoline. We are not there yet.

That is totally different than the effect that carbon based gas emissions have on atmospheric heating/cooling/balance.

 

Current EV battery tech is still in it's infancy and is constantly being improved upon. Such as not using mined minerals. What battery tech there is now most likely will not be what we have in 25 years. How have petrol based fuels improved since they were first refined?

Also there are multiple compounds of carbon. Not all good. Like Carbon Dioxide (C02)

 

Nope, it is all connected via the carbon cycle. Which btw methane is more of a concern to the atmosphere than carbon is.

So where are they going to get the cobalt, nickel & lithium needed? That is the current battery tech we have that is being produced en masse. If current battery tech is in it's infancy, the other battery techs you mentioned are a just fertilized egg. LONG way to go there in the development aspect.
Petrol fuels have certainly been improved since they were first refined. How do you think we ended up with racing fuel or KERS systems which are dependent on ICE engines for example. Plus you should take into account ALL of the products that have been found to be able to be produced with petroleum.

Yes, like I said the current battery tech uses those minerals. And no, not a long way to go in development. You just are not as informed as others on the new battery technologies. Plenty of new battery compounds on the way. Just not to your liking it seems.

 

You assume a lot. My industry is heavily reliant on alternative power sources for critical infrastructures on cell networks. If there were such technologies not that far off from production en masse we would have heard about it by now in my industry. Still looking at another decade or two from what developers are saying.

 

These critics always just focus on the batteries. A lot of resources and energy go into building an engine and transmission too. An EV is definitely better for the environment by the end of the lifespan of the vehicle.

Except that humans are massively disrupting the natural carbon cycle to a point of imbalance the Earth can’t cope with. Methane is far more potent but it’s not released in huge quantities like carbon dioxide.
