Hm maybe. Since my truck doesn’t get driven 5 days a week, I make sure to take it for a nice 30-40 min highway drive on the weekends. Also, my interior lights are always in OFF position. I do listen to music with the truck off quite often though.

Environment means a lot. Really hot reduces life. Really cold reduces life. How long a battery has been manufactured before install means life.

before replacing the battery try fully charging it, with a battery tender, and verify the voltage at full charge. Ski

The first battery in my 2018 OR DCLB lasted 2-1/2 years and them boom. No warning signs of slow cranking. Just dead. And of course I had cleaned all the terminal connections on a regular basis since new. The second battery, a Bosch from Pep Boys went exactly one year but since Pep Boys got bought out by Advanced Auto, the warranty was not honored. So far so good on the third battery after a year. Here in Los Angeles I typically get 4-5 years, or at least I have in the past.

nearly 4 YO truck with less than 3k?
Yeah, unless you put that on a battery tender, I would be suspecting, testing, and charging the battery,,,, know full well, I am most likely going to have to replace it.

If this continues after replacing the battery, I'd start looking at all of the ground connections. Anytime I've had a wierd electrical problem, it's usually turned out to be a bad ground.

One more data point, the OEM battery in my 20 OR lasted 2 years & one month. Replaced with a Northstar AGM so we’ll see how it goes

Never seen the gold top, my red top lasted about 3 months before it died. They replaced it under Optima warranty, the replacement died within six months, I replaced it with a Walmart Everstart, it was still working fine when I sold the Xterra 2 years later.

Another hijacked post by battery whiners. What a shame.

Get a battery tester and test your battery. Checking the voltage is not the whole story.

Battery testers are not expensive and tell you the health of your battery and even the charging system.

If your battery tests okay then it is probably the brake switch as suggested.

Also, never sell a vehicle to friend - especially one who calls you with a problem after they buy it.

Gold top is AGM deep cycle.
It can be fully discharged a few times and still come back to life.
Red top is not deep cycle. Kill it once and it's probably dead, dead

The 4.0 v6 needs about 700 cranking amps.
I always get a battery with more than required. Gives wiggle room if the weather gets freezing or blazing

UPDATE buyer is still complaining car doesn't always start the first time. Had battery checked and was told it's fine. Took it to his mechanic who now says it needs a new starter. Truck only has 4,000 miles on it. I'm skeptical but do hope that replacing the starter takes care of the problem. I'll post again if that was the fix.

If it’s the original battery, you’ve got nothing to loose by trying, as it’s on borrowed time anyways.
Again, low mileage (use) is hard on a battery.

Battery tested fine. They're going to replace the starter, not the battery.

Gotcha, makes sense. I mean if you’re going to guess at it, start with the most expensive, least likely to fail part and work your way back.
