As further proof that cats know when you need them, I submit Gracie. She has a strict routine regarding where and when she hangs out, and what she does, but she completely abandoned it for me this week. I have Covid. I’m doing okay, but I’m obviously sick and have quarantined in our bedroom. Gracie has stayed with me without exception the entire time, from the moment I came in here three days ago. She bails out for quick snacks, water, and potty breaks, but always comes right back. For context, she normally only ever hangs out on our bed at night when we’re sleeping, and then she always cuddles with my wife. With her history of injuries, illnesses, and obvious arthritis, it’s a lot of work for her to get up here, and it probably hurts. We had to get her some stairs, and even then she struggles climbing up. You can literally hear her hip cracking sometimes. Getting down for her is more like rolling down a hill than a controlled egress. Despite this, she is going up and down all day, and will not leave me even when the wife calls her to supper. My boys, Henry and Arthur, are also checking on me frequently, but Gracie has been here the whole time. It’s the nicest thing that’s happened to me in recent memory.

Gracie is awesome, what a wonderful kitty. Cats can sense things about us and Gracie knows you are ill. She’s trying to comfort you. You mention her struggling with arthritis. Just want to let you know there is a recent treatment for feline arthritis that works wonders. It’s a monthly injectable medication. It’s works great for most cats. Our 13 year old cat Copper has been on it for 4 months now. It took 2 to 3 months to really see improvement. He had a bad front leg limp for 2 years and could not jump up on things like he use to. The limp is now completely gone and is able to leap up on things he hasn’t been on in a year. (That’s good and bad). He’s not like when he was a youngster but he’s obviously not in pain and his improvement is remarkable . Our vet put her cat on the medication also with good results. The medication is Solensia. Ask your vet about it. Here’s an article on Solensia - https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...oundbreaking-drug-pain-management/6524588001/

Our vet recently mentioned this to us, but we haven't had time to look into it. Gracie already has quite a bit of GI difficulty, and with nausea and diarrhea listed as main side effects she may not be a good candidate. She also came to us with a severe allergic skin reaction from flea infestation, and that puts her at additional risk for some of the skin related autoimmune-mediated side effects. The article specifically mentions scabbing in the same areas where she had significant lesions when we took her in. She is just so fragile, and now that she's more-or-less stable we are hesitant to add anything new. That said, our vet is really good - she's Board Certified in Feline Medicine and an OSU graduate, and she actually knows some of the researchers who participated in the clinical trials for the drug. We are lucky to have her, and she loves a challenge. We will be reading up on the drug - pharmacists are nerdy that way - and will talk it up with the vet soon.

Either way, thanks for the tip. Hopefully others on this forum might benefit from it too.

@PaulK that's so cool! My Ollie was the same way with me when I was sick with Covid. They just know when you need them. ;)

This is not BS. It's true, and beyond simply companionship, they detect if your feet are cold and cuddle to them to provide warmth. Remember also the stories of dogs that won't leave the master's graveside. We humans falsely believe that only humans form emotional attachments. Our pets need us as we need them for emotional health.

After a busy kitty morning, Copper decided to take a nap in his kitty cup nest. Then suddenly he had an idea. What could be better than napping under the kitty cup nest. So being a “cool” cat he spent the rest of the day under the kitty cup. It’s a cat thing, peeps don’t understand.

Captain Fluffy Ass did the same thing when I was sick with that shit in June. Quarantine for 12 days and he slept in front of the closed door. My wife wouldn't let him come in the room with me. Took just about 3 months to get back to some type of feeling better. Hope you feel better soon @PaulK

She’s concerned the neighbors just pulled up. She doesn’t like strangers, understandable.

She's still here. Climbed up, checked me over, watched the birds a little, then passed out. Makes me feel so much better.

My cats are getting along fabulously today. What happened to the whole “they make a temporary alliance to share body heat in the winter” thing?!
