That thing is sweet! Exactly the type im looking for....a while ago i found a bolens that had a front out pto with a blower mounted to it but they wanted like 3500 for it...at that point f it...i have a full size tractor(well sub compact i guess lol) to do the job.... however there are many locations around the property that are better blown...no where for a plow pile..like around the cabin.

That's what I got. Just a couple years newer with the all red paint.

Gotta be careful. These things have no quit in them. You can roll them over backwards if you try to pull too much.

The big Bolens are rugged tractors, earlier models came with Wisconsin engines.
:)gossip: stick around here and you will understand the significance ;)).

A co-worker purchased a big Bolens 1886 (1971-72) that had been re-powered with a Briggs Vanguard V twin by the previous owner. He did a job worthy of a custom car, everything was beautifully done.

The Vanguard is both lighter and more powerful than the original Kohler twin, smoother and quieter too. It was a snow plowing bear.

Man...some of the set ups out there are insane..(5.56/.223/10mm/45acp enter the chat)..im just doing it for value and personal preference at the moment....it WOULD be nicer to pump out .223 a little quicker tho. I do try to go for accuracy with my 7mag too.

I'm noting this post, Russ. I've been thinking about repowering the Case. I completely forgot about the Vanguards.

(BTW, this is the completely wrong thread to be having these conversations). Just saying.

The early ones didn't have a (?) hold back valve (?) and would freewheel going down hill. :bikewhoops: They make a retrofit kit to add it.
    Somewhere around I have a smaller 10HP Case - 220, 224?
    Older one with a starter/generator.
I forget the model, haven't seen it in a while...

You better. The 7 is too expensive to shoot and waste rounds getting close.

My mill runs a vangaurd. Been very reliable so far. The mill is almost 30 yrs old..the vangaurd is a repower, not sure on yrs or hrs on it. Has a block heater pasted on it and will start in the winter.

I built a static phase converter for a fellow some years ago, he had a box of big honking capacitors probably 10" tall he gave me to use for it.

I did a bunch of reading and some math, it worked, I don't remember how I did it though. :notsure:

Mine does not have the hold back valve. I never missed it. My hand is always on the direction lever. I just feather it to reverse when gravity becomes too noticable.

The Fords and Bolens have the hydo under your foot - I had some JD and a Craftsman with it under the hand and found it cumbersome.
Probably a matter of what one is used to.

it's too easy to fall behind, how do any of you'z get any work done around here!

does your wife shoot professionally? that's a great picture
all i can think of is how easy that is to make with the scrap in my garage. but then i start thinking of adding a pivot in the middle, and then it would be nice to bead roll some lines into it, maybe fold over the edges for extra strength, and, and, and... suddenly i'm $600 into a snow plow build...

it's ok. my co-worker routinely drinks 1/4 of a bottle of water and then throws the rest out.

that's when i realized what a 1st world problem bottled water is.

can i just say how it's interesting to me how once a person crosses into the lower part of the states, they always add an apostrophe 'S' to Aldi?

i can literally hear the southern twang ;)

looks to me like a standard Dinner Snipe!

lucky you made it out as well as you did!

    have you seen this video?

i call this one "Attack of the Maintenance Man"

and if you've ever wondered why it might cost $400 to install a tub, it's because they used $200 in fittings!

My friend shoots near a thousand rounds a week. He saves a bit of money.

Ya with those numbers ud have to self supply....i have a hard time finding things like .38 sp at a decent price...i love shooting .38(kinda cowboy action) but im not paying 40 bucks a box to do it... .223 has gotten stupid in the last few years too. My situation is in part an Alaska mark up and logistics issue...i got sick of it. I order most of my components now and get powder from granite view in delta junction.
