I can't see a rear axel on that thing. There looks to be something under the rear end but that could just be some camo to go with what is visible underneath from the side.

Based on the spy shots the muel looks to be Fwd.

    That would be tragic.

Exactly. I got a Tacoma because it's not like the others. The V6+MT has been such a treat after having a 4-cylinder vehicle for 14 years. I don't want a Tacoma that sounds like an angry beehive or cokes up and burns oil like a Volkswagen. If that's the next Tacoma, I'll stick to the used market or buy whatever is cheapest from Ford or GM to avoid Toyota dealers.

If it's a Tacoma that would be tragic. Could be something else under there with 6 lug hubs as camouflage to make the appearance of a Toyota truck.

There could be a rear axel tucked up in there.

Look harder. There's clearly the shadow of a differential in front of that hangy-down.

That's what a lot of people do when it comes to half ton trucks. Unless they really want the Tundra. The 2nd gen Tundras were not insanely priced, and I don't think they usually sold at a mark up. Domestics sold at under MSRP, I know that was a different time. Domestics can still be found discounted below MSRP, and I think the biggest selling point for the 2g Tundra was the V8. People still like and buy the 3rd gen Tundra, it's only entering it's 2nd year of production, it will be interesting to see how it does. Lots of people avoiding the 1st year production cycle, and those market adjustments are not helping sales.

I can see that, but based on the photos it's just a shadow, or camo. It's probably the diff but my eyes can't confirm that from the photo.

Edit: that's probably a DCLB the wheel base looks long, or it's a Rwd 23 Sequioa.

The folks that set up these test rigs much have so much fun. "Hey Rick- I'm gonna hang this orange power cable out the window for no fucking reason at all. That'll get them talking." "Great idea- let's cover a Tacoma in Tundra panels. They'll froth at the mouth."

I agree. As soon as I saw the pic I said this is an obvious troll by the testers.

    For quick and easy deployment.
Seems like when Tacoma sales don't have a great month. These test muel spy shots show up. Not if it's PR or R&D driving the mules around.

Why are you always hung up on monthly sales? Lol

How would showing a new model increase sales of an older, outgoing, model?

It would more than likely slow sales as it shows people something is around the corner. Lol.

The sales numbers are released monthly. I'd like more manufactures to release monthly sales. I'm not hung up up on monthly sales numbers, nowhere near as much as any dealership general manager is.

I wouldn't expect new model news to generate current model sales growth but NMN does generate interest around the product and the brand. GM just released their midsize pricing about a month ago, and the build page went live with in the past couple of weeks. The sales leader in the segment, Toyota can't sit there and do nothing while that happens.

In my opinion, Toyota has a long history of doing nothing while the competition excels. If you think Toyota is going to suddenly adjust their marketing on a monthly basis I've got a bridge to sell you.

Sitting on their laurels has been a decent business model for them. They build a good boring vehicle that last a long time, and have built up a clientele that happily buys good boring vehicles. Right or wrong- doesn't matter to me. But they are not going to change trajectory based on what happens this month or next month. Decisions have been made years ago and they're going to stick by them.

You think Toyota does not do any marketing when a competitor introduces a new model?

New Tundra info was heavily leaked in response to Ford's unveiling of the 14th gen F-150.

I think Ford wanted to get their redesign out before Toyota's next gen half ton was unveiled.

I don't think that is any new marketing tactic for Toyota.

    Edit
Those stories are a year apart but there are Tundra photos that leaked along side the F-150 reveal.

Of course they do marketing. I'm saying they don't innovate, and they certainly don't make huge changes in marketing- because they don't care and they don't have to. They're quite content with their client base. The few times I've contacted them making suggestions, they've told me to pound sand.

1- I told them that I was a dedicated Toyota truck buyer, but was looking elsewhere for my last purchase because of their abysmal fuel economy and lack of tech features that I wanted. I ended up with an F-150, which is still one of my favorite trucks that I've owned. Reply was essentially "Thanks for your email. We build trucks the way our customers like them."
2- I told them that their lack of an ordering system was archaic. If I can build and price it on their website, there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to give a dealer a deposit and have a truck built the way I want and be delivered in 6 months or less. Response was, "We find that our system works well."

The ONLY reason I'm buying a '23 Tacoma is as a placeholder until what I really want is available. It will serve its purpose and somebody will pay me way too much money for it in a few years when I'm ready to unload it. A good boring truck with good resale value that lacks a lot of what I really want.
