    Hi everyone,
Looking to get some insight into what I’m dealing with here! I have a 2021 TRD PRO (after market roof rack) and I have water that came through the bottom of the dash (right where the hood latch is). Yesterday it rained for 24 straight hours pretty heavily. I’ve experienced this before but seems to come and go and only happens when it’s extended rainfall. Here’s the kicker: today the truck won’t start and it seems to be flat out dead. Anyone know what electrical gremlin was awaken or what my next steps should be? Is it clogged windshield drainage or something of the like? I know most people are going to say the roof rack wasn’t installed properly (it was and sealant is good) but I want to hear other reasons as to how the water got in and what I should do. Current plan is to wait for it to dry, see if it works and if not, then have an independent shop diagnose it. Will go to a Toyota dealer after but I’m worried that they will simply say it’s my fault and pull my warranty. Thank you in advanced and happy holidays!

they are not going to pull your warranty. They may decline to cover water intrusion due to your roof rack, but they are not going cancel the rest of the vehicle's warranty.
Do you have anything aftermarket wired or modified? If so, that could be a reason for the dead battery, and more of a coincidence.

I do have a light bar, pods, other electrical accessories but nothing that actively runs (s-pod like controller). Might give it a jump but don’t want to fry anything or further mess up anything

I believe the sunroof drain routes through the driver A-pillar so possibly that is the cause of the water.

That’s what I think the source is as well. It seems to clog up excessively and could lead to a bad issue. Would damage caused by that cause me to be at fault?

More than welcome to come diagnose it your self. Have someone give comprehensive diagnose? No, but felt like the helpful people such as PJTX and Chew of this forum would be able to offer something of value which they did.

Update. Battery was dead. Jumped it and she’s going. Have been driving it all week and drove it last night which should have given me at least accessory power or something, not completely dead as it was! Very very happy nothing is fried or something like that but need to source the leak and stop it. Thank you for the help everyone!

Cool, now gotta find the leak.
Depending on how froggy you’re feeling, you could pull some minor interior parts, grab some flashlights, beer, and a buddy and go ride through the local car wash.

I haven’t dealt with this issue personally, but I’ve read a ton of threads with similar symptoms. Just spit balling here, but possibilities to read up on and investigate:

    -windshield seal leak
    -windshield cowl drain clog
-AC condensate drain clog (although I think this wets the passenger side not the driver’s side?)

I like the cowl drain clog. I try to keep debris out of there on all my cars. It might be clogged with leaves and other fall objects.

Definitely check the sunroof drain if you have one. I had a similar problem where water was coming in on my passenger side footwell. Turned out it was leaking through the roof rack mounting holes. Put Teflon on the bolts, and siliconed all around them. I would definitely check it if you have a roof rack. Even if you don’t, the factory seal could’ve gotten punctured and let something in.

I will say I had the exact same leak on my 2nd gen, and it was the front roof rack holes not being sealed *well enough*

I’d double check those bolts, as well as the sunroof if you have one like others have said.

Update for all those who contributed helpful information: truck has been in and out of two Toyota dealerships and on its third. (First one wanted me to take all of the aftermarket lights and goodies off so I took it back and did so. Brought it to the next one where they didn't find anything wrong but the truck seemed to be working as it should after a few days randomly). Got the truck back Saturday, sat over night, and went to drive it and the truck was dead. (Plus some kind individual slashed my passenger rear tire... I cant catch a break). Currently at the third dealership where they cant seem to find the issue. So currently the truck is constantly draining the battery when parked but functions like nothing is wrong once started with a jump. Advice on what to steer the technician toward and what to do would be very much appreciated. Looking to get the truck back to normal before the trail season comes!! Thank you!

Are you getting water. Or a battery drain, seems like this post has intermixed questions.

battery drain. Pull out the fuses Put an amp meter between battery and cable. There should be no drain. If there is you have a battery drain around things still connected to the battery(starter…)

if no draw. Plug a fuse in one at a time until you get a draw. I would also leave that fuse out and test the remainder of the circuits.

This will narrow the places to look.

Did the technicians tell you how much amp draw you have while parked?

What is the condition of the battery? Factory one?

The leak I am assuming is still persisting but haven't noticed any water yet. Will try pulling the fuses and sorting it out that way. thank you very much!

No insight into the amp its drawing while parked but will look for that. The battery was replaced last week under warranty.
