My son has my old Chevy which usually sits in this bay so it’s not all open space.

30x60 u say? Can we get some build details and approximate costs? Ive toyed with the idea of a steel building mostly because of speed of assembly...but keep going back to pole, timber, stick frame do to cost and milling my own lumber(we are far from any code enforced area)

I will remind you, thanks for that.
The antique store in Murphy Nc that him and I always go to when we go up for July 4th and Thanksgiving promised him a free "first in flight" NC tag back in the summer when he got one in. I guess he lost his address because when we went back around Thanksgiving he had the plate behind the counter. The owner gave me the plate and made me promise not to give it to my nephew until he wrote a thank you card and mailed it. Anything stock sends my way I will make sure you get a thank you card before my nephew ever gets it. I'm trying to teach him right.

Your "guest house" has more square footage than my actual house - and is a lot nicer too. Sweet set up!

It’s a prefab kit from Heritage Buildings, you spec it out to them as far as what size and configuration you want. They do the structural plans, make the kit and ship it to you by truck. Slab I contracted out. Me and a neighbor who used to be a contractor did the building assembly. I did everything else except for the sheetrock in the apartment, that was another subbed out job.

Cost, this was 8 years ago now, $15k for the building with shipping, slab work and concrete was $20k. The interior was another $30k. Not sure what it would cost now but I know it will be significantly more.

Thanks Rusty. My son was wanting to move out but I knew he couldn’t afford a decent place so I told him I would build it so he could “move out.” Since I didn’t know how long he would be in it I went full on with the thought in the back of my head for the man cave when he moved out. He and his girlfriend, now wife, lived there for 4 years till they got their careers going and built their own place. After that was when the wife decided to crush my dreams lol. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s nice not to have company in the main house when friends/family do come to visit.

Thats not too bad really...especially compared to cost up here even 8 yrs ago. There is a company locally and i really need to get a quote from them...my first quote was from a co down in washington and was well over 150k(with concrete) granted that quote was for a complete build.

I imaging “Alaska” adds a chunk to the cost of anything. Complete builds really add to the cost, Heritage included a labor cost if I wanted them to do everything, it was about 130k back then.

It sure does add a chunk...but i get it. We bought a 20x60 high tunnel greenhouse and the 90ft roll of plastic cost almost as much to ship as it cost to buy the roll! Lol. Its worth living up here tho...we dont put up with even a ¼ of the bs that has been going on down there..

Oh man...hate to brag about my wife, shes awesome. When i was on the fence about buying my second hand 7 mag(500 then/1200 now) her exact words were "if u dont take this deal, i will question ur manhood"...i took the deal. She does drag me around by the balls now and then but at least theyre still attached to me and not in her purse.
Heres and idea...very slowly take over a room in there...then at some point pop in another exterior door and change the locks to that room.

I’ve got a retirement road trip up to Alaska that I have planned for a long time. If the world will calm down for a minute I might be able to afford to make that trip…
