That’s really cool. I’d try to make something like that by hand and it would take the 3rd attempt to get it right.

Yes sir. They are a skateboard company. The make kits to vacuum form with foam moulds hand made skateboard decks.

    https://www.roarockit.com/skateboar...p-kits/thin-air-press-kit-36x52/#.Y55RcWhMGDZ

I use this to close it though. I dont like the butyl tape.

    https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Simple-Vacuum-Bag-Closure.html

I use the supersoft veneer softener, and the cold press glue with a foam roller.

This box of over 100 square feet of veneer, and his veneer saw and you are in business.

I have my eye on some mid century modern end tables and they are dying to have the crap veneer taken off and some best figure walnut or teak put on.

I watch Dasher Design videos on YouTube. Dude has a thing for mid-century modern and is constantly fixing up yard sale or thrift store finds. They all have veneer issues.

Ok to use a vacuum press you have to get a flat panel that is slightly oversized, press, and then trim to size. You would have to replace the top with new wood. If the veneer is coming off, it wouldn't be a good substrate anyway.

I am not confident enough to offer good advice on how to accomplish that without replacing the whole failed panel.

I've got a few Mid Century modern pieces. Mostly in good shape, but have some chips of missing veneer. When I have time some day, I'd like to refinish them and repair the veneer chips.

The Zenith 1967 MSM console stereo my Dad gave my Mom as wedding present. It's got a fair amount of veneer damage, but the stereo and reel to reel works. This will be my first project to tackle when I can.

My Hooker floating desk. Remarkably it was scratch and chip free after 50+ years of existence, until I put a big gouge on the side unloading it.

I wish I had my parents’ old Sylvania Hi-Fi. I still fondly remember the smell of the tubes warming up - ozone mixed with lemon Pledge. Solid walnut with chestnut accents. Solid wood - no ply. I looked it up - they’re worth thousands now (but I’d never sell).

Plus, records sounded amazing on it.

My MIL has a 1960s German Hi-Fi that looks good but it’s all plywood and veneer. She’s offered it to me for “later.”

Thanks! I'll have to check these guys out.
    Those are amazing.
My wife and I have been looking for a Hi-Fi.

Do your parents still have the Sylvania?

No, they sold it for $500 back in 1990. They didn’t need it and moved cross country as soon as my sister and I moved out.

me and my wife just had an estate sale for her stepfather that just passed this spring and her mom had passed just 2 years prior....in all that stuff i found an RCA floor model record player/radio......if it wasnt the fact of being flooded with stuff she didnt want to sell the thought crossed my mind to convert it to a modern media server/music jukebox....with upgraded speakers and amplification....

I thought my Mom and Dads didn't work, and was going to modify it either with modern audio or make it a bar. Then I found out it all worked so the plans changed. There's an antique mall around here that has a lot of MSM stuff. 1/2 + dozen rooms set up in MSM period style. It's pretty cool and it's where I got my desk in the pic above. The last time I was there, they had at least 6 console stereos for sale, all restored (or original) and in new condition, for several thousand each. It takes a lot to restore them to that condition.

This is the same model as my parents. I've been looking for reel-to-reel music tapes but they are surprisingly hard to find. Maybe the material is not durable...

OMG....we practically gave ours away....i think we sold it for $50....given it was not restored but it did work and a few pots were cracking but nothing a lil electrical cleaner wouldn't cure..the Finish was still like new.
However stuff like that is all about location...locals look at that as kinda junk.....East coast and West coast....niche markets, you can get the bigger bucks....but cost of shipping or transporting would eat that up...It just boils down to Location, location, location......

I documented this process for my future self.
