Yup its an "estate heatrola", i looked into it and its from the 30s..still works like a charm. The sales brochure i found claimed big savings in burning ur automotive and tractor waste oil. Problem is theres no roof insulation in the shop and at negative temps it wont heat the shop at all. I have burned waste oil through and am suprized with the vapor effect it doesnt smoke at all...really doesnt even stink.

All the NP 435s had the same direct 1:1 fourth gear so a transmission swap alone won't give a better cruising rpm, need a 2 speed rear for that.

My unit is non electric and has no fan...i put a small fan behind it and that works pretty well. Im at some point going to build a little off grid cabin in the woods behind us and it will live there as a secondary heat source.

U know i was told that but a guy up here at youngs gear was saying the 80s version is different??. I have an old shop manual that argues his info...i know for sure the matching rear is gonna be the ticket, i had no problem cruising the truck at 65 with lots of pedal left. I have another old manual that refers to the 435 series(445 etc) are actually a 5 spd with 3rd pulled from the mix...? Wtf i say lol...again, im no pro, i just cant keep my hands off a challenge like this.

I built a drip style waste oil heater some years ago, it worked pretty good and would dispose of anything from decades old gasoline to gear oil. I quit using it for a few reasons.
    1) just not large enough for my space - too slow
    2) I was forever tinkering with it to keep it burning clean
    3) If I wasn't paying attention it would blow serious smoke - like rolling coal smoke

One humid day I looked out the garage window and thought it was odd to be foggy in the middle of the day.
Yep, it was me! I put out a cloud that stretched 500' downwind.

As the garage is in a rural/residential area I decided that wasn't the neighborly thing to do and quit using it.

I agree...we have a few distant neighbors that burn their trash, the fn transfer site is just down the road! I cant see the neighbors but sure can smell them sometimes. It can turn bbq and a beer on the porch into a shitty time in a heartbeat.

All 435s were straight 4 speeds, no OD. They had lower and reverse gearing differences but 4th was always direct 1:1. Wish the Tacoma had a reverse ratio like any of them.

    --------------------------------1st --2nd--3rd--4th--- Rev.
    NP435A (Dodge, GM)---------4.56 2.28 1.31 1.00 - 5.64
    NP435L (Ford, Dodge, GM)---6.68 3.34 1.66 1.00 - 8.26
    NP435D (GM)------------------4.90 2.29 1.19 1.00 - 6.06
    NP435E (Ford)-----------------6.68 3.34 1.74 1.00 - 8.26

Ok ok, i just thumbed through 2 shop manuals, 1 from 1982...which i believe is the year truck that 435 came from and that whole series is 1:1. I think that dude at youngs is full of shit. He also argued that the hubs on the front of my 1ton dont exist (selectro)

Speaking of ratios, different project than spoken about above....if i keep these trucks, one of them is a w300. It was sold as the "sno fighter"? Anyway..its a 1ton 4x4 dually. 360 445 203 d60 d70. Look this up...but the 445 is bolted to a 203 and will not accept the 205 (without some adapting), so i thought no worries, i have an 84 with a 435 hooked to a 208. The 205 will bolt right up...but back to that 445 and 203...i could buy the doubler adapter and stick the 203 205 together! Reverse gears forever! Lol and of course twin stick it...

Just realised i didnt give the year for the 2 projects.. the w300 is a 75 and the d300 with the 12ft flat/dump is a 78. Parts trucks are 84 82 and 79.

Sounds like he has more opinions than facts.

None of the Ford/Chev/Dodges of the era had overdrives on their heavy duty transmissions, they did however offer OD on the 1/2 tons starting in the late 70's.

There were 3 HD 4 speeds commonly available back then New Process 435, Borg Warner T-18/19/98, Muncie 420/465.

International Harvester was different however. The HD bus and truck transmissions were available in pickups and Travelalls:

4 speed with compound low and 1:1 final
5 speed with compound low and 1:1 final
5 speed with syncro first and OD final
    And finally:rockband::
5 speed with compound low and OD final :woot::woot:
Now that would be cats @$$ in a truck or Travelall.

Travelall picture just because I always wanted one.

Sno-Fiter was the Dodge factory snow plow package with a bunch of good heavy duty stuff and distinctive graphics. These were very common in the northeast, most have rusted away.

You have a lot of parts there... Not sure which is the best way to go.
The 203 is a chain drive full time transfer case with a (primitive) mechanical differential.
The 205 is an iron case part time case.
The 208 is an aluminum case part time chain drive transfer case.

The 205 is by far the strongest of the bunch.

The 445 is a close ratio 4 speed with syncro first gear.
