I have a set on the way now for my MT. Won’t get home to install them until Christmas weekend though.

Where I live, there is no issue.

It's when traveling or visiting my sisters in the city that thefts are more prevalent. I already had the skid plate, so the RCI "wings" made sense.

Even if you had a piece of bent rebar inside an aluminum tube it will slow down most thieves. Aluminum tube spins if they use a Sawzall, or gums up an angle grinder. Idea is to slow thieves down so just not worth the hassle. Give you more time to catch them.

Ordered my shields on 21 November and received the shipment today! Just in the nick of time as the county cops around here just put out a bulletin on an uptick in thefts. I haven't installed them yet, but let me say, these things are buff, heavy and thick stainless... well made and will definitely slow these Fargin' Ice-ole, tweekers down if they want to slide under my truck. 4wd, 4 cyl, automatic.....is there such a thing? Wouldn't 2wd, 4 cyl, automatic be a more popular configuration?

 

My buddy test drove a 4 cyl double cab, automatic. It was slower than a dead turtle.

 

Stopped by and picked mine up this week. Crawled under the truck and popped them on yesterday. Good product, fits well. Bonus for me is the heat dissipation holes are a perfect guide for my ac drain mod. No more zip tie.

Installer alert, don’t use too many ugga duggas on the security bolts. I must have been sloppy with the last one. Spun the bit and now I need to figure out if I want solve the problem now or some possible time in the future. Probably now. Sigh.

 

Just wanted to weigh in with an MT experience. I got mine about a week ago, got around to installing today. Very easy, nice fitment and I appreciate the included security bolts. No worries about the hoses which is a plus, but unfortunately it leaves a somewhat sizeable gap. If you look from the driver's side, it pretty obvious but you wouldn't know if you popped under the passenger side. It seems like plenty of room to get around the shield with a little extra maneuvering and get the cat out. Any deterrent is better than none, but I have a little less peace of mind than I was hoping for. FYI.

Maybe instead of your buddy you should try to test drive one....and actually step on the gas pedal. Mine moves just fine. So now lets get back on topic.

Ordered November 27th and also still waiting. I'm sure these flew off the shelves due to the price point so I wouldn't be surprised if that 2 week initial lead time estimate turns out to be a month or more.

 

Woah, that gap looks huge. About how wide of opening would you say that is? I have an A/T and not sure if that makes a difference.

 

I guess the MT must be considerably smaller. This seems to be the narrowest part. After installing these, I also sprayed on eight cans of Surface Shield, so that's now everywhere including the floor. It was a little hard to tell what I was doing without getting totally covered in it myself. There's at least that half inch of extra play in the heat shield, if not a little more to the floor of the truck.

If anybody wants more exact measurements I can jack it up and take more pictures after work one day when I have time.

 

In AT truck that gap would be covered by the transmission pan, I think.
MT shield will need to have higher sides.

 

I don't know if a specific M/T version would be in the works due to the small numbers but the drivers side looks fairly protected with the driveline in place. Perhaps an extension on to the side of the shield on the passenger side that could attach with security bolts would be enough of a fix. I have a set in the box for my M/T that I was planning on putting on later this week.

 

My shipment showed up Thursday 12/15, took til tonight to decide I wanted to crawl around on the 35 deg garage floor. Install went pretty easy on my ‘21 TRD Sport. Two observations: mine is definitely close to the hose on the passenger side, I’ll probably put some edge guard on it to be sure it doesn’t cut through. The metal edge is pretty sharp and if I pull the hose down I can make it touch.



On the drivers side the guard it definitely pressing up against the cat when everything is tight. Probably not a big deal but I didn’t see that mentioned at all here.

 

Wonder if you got one from the first batch I thought they said that they made more room for those hoses.......

 

Any 2wd autos on yet?

 

I have a 22' and mine is the same way on both sides. Not ideal, but I'm sure it's still a useful deterrent.

Also, the Torque specs were never mentioned when securing the 2 bolts for the transmission subframe. They should be torqued to 30ft/lb or 40Nm.
