    Hey all,

While beginning to clean my truck (Gen 3) today, I noticed that the inner door seal on my drivers side was torn. I don’t know how long it was like that, if I did it, or if it was there from the previous owner and I just noticed it.

Anyway, if it’s not crazy expensive and super hard to do, I’d like to replace it to prevent it from pulling apart even further, and to prevent other problems down the road.

Would anyone have a part number for the drivers side inner door seal? Is it hard and worth doing? Thanks!

    Oh look, another mod....

Why replace it, only a small part of it is bad? Fix it! Put a dab or two of superglue behind it and re-stick that bitch to the truck.

Your call of course, but if it seals it seals is how I would think about this personally. Maybe a bit of black RTV to keep it from getting worse?

True, but most of that bottom part is torn, I only posted two pictures. Doesn’t sound like a bad idea at all, I’m just curious as to how well it really hold…

If you are going to try to fix it use the correct glue, available at any auto parts store.

Yikes. May just try and fix it at this point lol. Is that piece of interior weatherstripping one piece all the way around? I say that because the parts diagram looks like the weatherstrip stops where that plastic floor trim piece starts. Maybe it’s just the diagram? Or is the bottom piece a different part number?

Considered replacing it if it was cheap enough, but I don’t think spending that on a whole new piece of weatherstripping is the best idea, at least until the whole piece dies…

I used Permatex 81158 Black Silicone to repair the Weather stripping on my jeep 2 years ago. I put a slice in the rear window weather stripping the repair is still perfect 2 years later.

Going to pick up some black 3M weatherstrip adhesive/sealer from autozone. I’ll try and repair it as best I can for now. Thanks for the input guys.

That will work. I've used it before as I was in the same situation with my 2001 Tundra.

Hey all, I ended up trying to repair it. Wasn’t happy with the end result and kind of thought it was sloppy. The weatherstripping started to curl/deform on my and it wouldn’t really stick back the way it was originally intended to be, meaning both broken ends didn’t want to stick together quite right. Just ordered a new one for $123 minus shipping, I don’t think that’s cheap but I guess it isn’t terrible.

Maybe next time I need to take more care in repairing something like that, and maybe I should realized silicone can be a pain in the ass if it doesn’t do what you want.

Would it have held? Maybe, but it would remind me of how janky of a repair it was each and every time I get in the truck. Plus after trying to mush the molding back in its original spot, I don’t think that original bead of silicone I put in the seam was actually sealing anything. So maybe I just made it worse. I don’t know.

Hey brother, at least you gave it a shot! And I probably would not want to look at that every time I got in the truck either! :)

PS: $123 ain't nothing these days when it comes to car stuff.

CA glue (superglue....the same stuff they use on R/C car tires) works pretty good for these types of things...it kicks quickly and with a little bit of care and patience, you can get it just where you need it so the repair is almost invisible. I usually apply a bit to a toothpick and work about 1/2" of tear at a time.

Yeah it’s definitely easier to work with, I just didn’t know if it was the best possible stuff to use. Plus it leaves this white residue which is kind of annoying

You don't need to slather the whole thing in superglue...just a wee bit on cut, towards the side you can't see. You can do it without any residue everywhere, although it takes time and patience...which I'm typically not in the mood for. lol
