If the Honda Ridgeline were an EV, it would be the Rivian. Yuk.

Whether you believe in CC or not, the obvious solution is to add taxes and regulations to the West and give the money to China where they are extra careful not to pollute. Had you guys flown your private jets to a summit you would realize this.

Very well reasoned and persuasive argument. I’m sure the mods will be along to remove this thread any minute now.

No spare included anymore, and no way to buy one individually? Oof.

They stated that they will be making updates to the Gear Shop in 2023 in the same email that they said they were removing “Adventure Gear” aka accessories from your preorder. Given that there are wheel sets available, albeit you need to call to place your order, I would not be surprised to see individual wheels also available at that time. Orders are 6-8 weeks out on the R1 Shop so you wouldn’t have a vehicle to put your accessories in/on until 2023. I’m fairly sure you’d have the same lead time on preorder build.

I don't believe there is even an aftermarket soloution for a spare. Sure you can get custom made aftermarket wheels, but who is going to go that route for a spare.

When the R1T was still a concept I thought the the truck offered to little options and too many accessories. For Rivian to streamline production and deliver vehicles in a timely and cost effective manner. Which is fine when your competition is Ferrari and Lamborghini, it's not good when your competition is Ford and GM.

How long is going to take before Rivian is charging $200k or more for a far less personalized vehicle, in an attempt to lose less money per vehicle? Ford and GM aren't going to be able to turn a profit on their EV trucks with out substantially raising the price.

Whose going to invest in Rivians future outside of Tesla, who very well won't be able to afford it. I can't even see a Chinese multi national corporation investing in high end EV truck stat ups. China makes their own low cost alternatives.

There are aftermarket wheels available that fit. What I did was find three other people who wanted a spare and bought a set of four split between us. Not as easy as just getting the spare from the factory of course.

For people who were intending to spend a bunch of money on Rivian accessories this might work out in their favor. The sale price of the vehicle calculated for tax credit purposes can be drastically reduced when you aren’t rolling $10k of accessories into it.

The cost of one of these is around$150000 here in Canada. For that amount of money I could pretty well buy a TRD Pro and drive it for 15 years . That includes fuel, maintenance and insurance. Tacoma vs Rivian for my needs ,Tacoma for the win.

How do they get up to $150k Canadian? Are there crazy taxes and fees?

No federal incentives/tax rebates for EVs?
EDIT: I see that even a dual motor standard pack is about the $70k max

Definitely not a money saving alternative to the Tacoma. It would take about 130k to breakeven compared to my Tacoma. If you look at the costs of a comparable truck to the R1T like my TRX then the Rivian starts off ahead by being $10k cheaper and just continues to save money from that point on.

A small EV pickup truck would interest me for a daily driver if it didn't cost a lot more than a Tacoma. But with the price of these things I'm not sure that will ever happen.

How has the Rivian been in the cold weather? Are you losing much range?

Rivian must have recently delivered a lot of trucks to MA. I’ve suddenly been seeing them everyday lately. I saw 4 today in my travels.
