One thing leads to another. I've got a worn place in my steering wheel that i was going to live with.
Then my cruise stopped working. Turn the wheel a 1/4 turn and you can turn the cruise on. I've been told it's the clock spring. So i decided to replace the steering wheel since i had to remove it to fix the cruise. After pricing a new OEM steering wheel, i decided to look for a used one . Found a used one in great shape for $200.
Now here's the question. My wheel has no controls for the stock radio. The wheel i purchased has the radio controls in the wheel. Can my stock radio be controlled with this wheel? Is the steering column pre wired from the factory so i can just plug and play? I might even consider upgrading the radio if the wiring for the wheel controls are already there. Any insight is appreciated .

Welcome to Tacoma World! What year truck did you replacement steering wheel come out of? Does the new clock spring have places for the steering wheel controls to connect into?

As far as I know.....the answer to all of your questions are "No" you will not be able to do those things. You need to replace the original clock spring with one my specifically your year truck and you will not be able to control the radio with your steering wheel. This, I believe started in 2012 and up.

Steering wheel controls were available on the earlier 2nd gens. I don't know what years but I've seen them. Someone more familiar with early 2nd gens would have to chime in.

My 2007 Tacoma TRD came without any radio controls on the steering wheel. The used wheel i purchased has radio controls on the left side of the wheel. If i remove the radio controls and the plastic spacer on the right side, this wheel is exactly like mine and my airbag will go right on this wheel. However, if my steering column is wired from the factory for the radio controls, I plan to purchase a airbag to fit the new wheel and upgrade the radio to one that will work with the steering wheel controls.I guess i'll know when i pull the wheel if there's a plug there for the radio controls to plug into.

Strange. My 2007 steering wheel has controls for the stock radio which worked.

I stand corrected then.....I thought they only came with the 2012+ models with the touch screens. I do know that the clock springs are very specific to each style though....due to the differences in buttons on the steering wheels
