Nice! All you need is a front bumper and you will be armored except for your underskirts :)

Question: Is there a purpose to those dual cb antennas? I've seen a lot of people do that when I was stationed in socal and always said to myself "WTF!!??!" but never talked shit because don't know what the purpose is..

EDIT: Yeah, those are pretty shitty cell phone pictures lol

going to be going on a road trip spring break. corvallis to tahoe, tahoe to vegas, the vegas to corvallis.

it will be me and my girlfriend with our bags and snowboards up top. ive never driven this far before and this is also my first road trip. (im from hawaii...)

my bfg a/t have about 60k on them. im not sure how the roads are in tahoe but im assuming they are pretty snowy. not sure about the drive down to vegas.

its been about 4k since my last oil change, but i did use mobil1 synthetic. should i change it before i leave?

    any other suggestions

I would change your oil. I don't believe in taking oil (synthetic or not) over 6K. For me it's not a matter of whether the oil has broken down or not, it's about getting the crap that may have gathered in the oil that the filter can't quite clean out, OUT of your engine.

I took a road trip through Tahoe last year around the end of summer, it's not a huge elevation change. You might be alright by that time of march. At least as far as the road surface is concerned. There may be some built up on the sides.

Only other tip, make sure your spare is aired up and you know where your jack is, etc. You don't want to wait for roadside assistance on the side of the freeway/mountain road.

Yes! Change your oil and rotate/balance your tires if needed. Make sure all your fluids are good to go as well.

I did a road trip from Camp Pendleton, CA(San Diego area) to Somerset, TX(near San Antonio) and from Somerset, TX back here to Beaverton, OR back in December of 2007. I tell you..driving through Utah and Colorado was awesome!! The snow was sooo bad and the mountain roads were so narrow with no side rails it was scary!! Mind you it was with my old 2002 TRD Double Cab and I made it fine! I had 265/75/16 BFG KM1's with about 45k on them. It will be spring break so the roads should be fine as far as snow goes. Anyways, have fun!!

EDIT: And it was just my girl and I as well. We stopped at truck stops(travel centers) for naps.

Yea RF bumper i hope end of summer, and full skids to. For the dual antennas their is a purpose to them for some, but for most their isnt. I run a CB and was going to get a 40ch scanner as well, thats why i mounted to. But decided against the scanner. Most people i know have dual whips but dont have them connected to a damn thing (posers) :D

But since no scanner thats why im debating just getting a single hood mount and calling it good. Id have to sell my antennas tho since 4ft whips are a little much for the hood antenna look. haha

oil, coolant, power steering, brake fluid, washer fluid. And rest stops are just parking lots off roads with bathrooms. You can just pull in and take a nap in your rig, walk around and just rest. Their are travel centers and trucks stops as well that are pretty much the same thing, but some have like a small restaurant or somethings as well.

Best go to travel centers to nap in your 4runner because people go to it more and you'll feel more safe. Also they have restrooms for you to freshen up at and it is being maintained so it won't be as gross for you or your gf when you guys wake up and want to brush your nasty fangs :D

haha well i wasnt planning on sleeping in those places. maybe just to use the bathroom. mapquest is telling me about 9.5-10 hour from here to tahoe. so i was going to leave around midnight friday. is that a bad idea? i figure the only time i'll have to drive when its dark i will still be in oregon and on i5 so im not too worried.

The passes through that area could be clear or they could be bad. You can have snow on the ground through 4th of July, lol. Bringing chains would be good if you have them, but I doubt you would need them. I'd say the worst case is that you have to drive 25mph on your tires.
My bud and I lived in Klamath Falls for about 4 years. I had an 86 Accord and
did fine. He had an 81 Toyota Pickup 2WD and it was a bit creepy so he'd have to go really slow

since it's mobil1, do the change. Despite what the others say, I believe in extended drain periods provided you have quality oil products. I use Amsoil and get my stuff tested by Blackstone Labs, so far my tests have shown excellent result and I should be changing oil less often (example below).
Dad had an 87 Camry with a bypass filtration system. After driving 120 miles per day, he sold the car at 500k miles. We noted that the car was getting oil hungry around 400k, but you can expect that under any synthetic use.

Keep in mind, though, that these oils cost more, so it's up to you what road to take.

Other tips are to bring snacks, bring a jug of water for the radiator just in case of overheating, make sure to check your spare.

As you know, you can't pump your own gas in Oregon. Some pump stations close down at night. Ask me how it feels to have the gas light come on at 3am.

Or just fill up the day before and you'll be set :D

Yea, the first time I came up to Oregon that was a horrible realization that stations weren't 24/7 like everywhere else >.>

the gas station part you should be ok with, i say that because you said most of your time will be on I5. A lot of the stations a long that are 24/7. I drove straight from Kamloops Canada to Junction city oregon without a single gas station issue. :)

That's about the only thing I dislike about Oregon. They should at least make the pumps work with a credit card and you pump your own gas.
