Yo fellow taco enthusiasts! Been having this issue for a while now, my 07 auto won’t shift into fifth gear unless I drive for a bit and restart the engine. The issue occurs again if I shift out of fifth and I have to repeat the process.

I have no codes and my trans fluid is at the correct level.

    any ideas?

Can you manually shift in and out of 5th with the gear shifter.

no only way is to restart the engine .

I also forgot to mention when manually down shifting there’s a big delay between shifts. Rpm’s drop and it feels like it goes into “neutral” for a few seconds then catches the gear.

Mine does that only with light throttle but going from 3rd to 4th and I'm running 35's. I'm guessing it could be a sticking solenoids in the valve body.
