Is that not your main water line coming in? Those are commonly PVC down South.

Water main or lawn sprinklers would be my thoughts. Though both should have a ball or gate valve in-line if that's the case.

I'd guess underground sprinklers and/or a spigot(s) in the yard

Time to do a little investigation, could be:
Supply line - do you have a well or municipal water?
    Sprinkler or yard faucet
    Water line to an outbuilding

Don't let him fool ya. I'm 95% sure 48% of the time that he probably staged the contents for the pics.

Actually nothing had been "doctored". Only thing I did was add that piece of cardboard so the cats wouldn't mess with the medicine side of the cabinet.

The water supply from the road is on the other side of the house. This was my grandmother's home, and while she is no longer alive I asked my mom if she ever had any sort of sprinkler system and she said there never would've been anything like that installed. There's no outbuildings either. Definitely a mystery to me!

    So the plot thickens...

Any neighbors near by? Not the first time I've seen some other house being tapped into another. Sounds odd I know.

Possible there was an old well and that was the water line from it. Then the city put in city water and grandma hooked up to that. You would figure a decent plumber would cap that line though. When summer rolls around dig that thing up and start following it. We're all curious now. lol

I doubt it would be connected to another property. The house next door was built 2 years prior in 1967 and those were the only two homes in that area for many years, not to mention being a couple acres apart. I really would like to figure this one out!

9/10 chance it is a sprinkler/ yard spigot. It looks like the brick was drilled from the other side so it was not put in during construction. Do you have a pool? What’s on the other side of the kitchen sink wall? What about a whole house water filter?

Grab a shovel and start digging.

I second the well though. Maybe whoever connected up the city water thought the well might still be useable as a backup.

No pool. Other side of the wall is just the backyard and one shrub close to the house. Doubtful of a filter but who knows? Tomorrow I’ll see if I can talk to the lady next door, as she’s been there since my house was built. Otherwise I foresee putting a shovel to use soon. (After turning the water off, just to be safe) don’t need a ruptured line plus water going everything too. :rain:

looking at it again it looks like you have some water getting back under the house and dirt slowly working its way in through the hole the PVC is going through

There is hard water staining on the brick and the brick has been pieced back together and re- mortared. In fact that entire wall of brick has been rebuilt/restacked. The mortar is completely different and unlike the other wall it is all the same brick.

PVC pipe began to be used in homes for pressure applications in the mid 70's.
There may be a date in ink on the pipe along with the manufacturers name.
This is a good mystery, I'm still betting on a forgotten yard hydrant.
