What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Awesome work. Been keeping a close eye on you and @cbechtold for the front end stuff that's been happening lately.

I have been chasing a "bogging" that feels like a misfire. No CEL until I really romped on it and got a cylinder 3 code. Have had plugs, wires, and hoses ready to go in for forever, was going to tackle the valve cover gaskets at the same time including all the stuff in Timmy's video (half moons, plug gaskets, throttle body and maf cleaning, etc) but anyone have any other recommendations to do while the plenum is off?

I took it out this past weekend for my last rip with the kid before I do all the work.

 

I installed a 200 watt solar panel, ICECO JP40 fridge, Napa awning and fire extinguisher recently. It’s always a work in progress but so far so good!

 

About to undergo the “big 7” project along with some other wiring. Anyone done so before? I was trying to figure out where I’d find wiring loom for 0 gauge wire. Way thicker than I expected.

 

Dont know the big 7 but....gaff or wire loom tape? Ive also seen the "finger trap" style loom tubing that was almost 3"..was at an electrical supply warehouse(non automotive, was probly something sold to the commercial factory industry but would work).

 

In the same boat as you (needing some maintenance) Grabbing new Injectors, coil packs, new maf, noticed my dash coolant temp sticks once in awhile so replacing that sensor as well as the actual ECU/ECT temp sensor, hoses as you mentioned, fuel pressure regulator and hose, fuel pump and fuel injection relays, fuel filter, and vacuum switch valve (emissions that was clicking and worn).

Check out your crank pulley rubber and crankshaft seal, just did those awhile back as part of the maint. And lately see a few posts about leaks with the coolant bypass tube that runs in the valley of the 3.4 under the intake manifold.

 

I used some of this, but in the smaller size, for my battery cables.

I been doing my research on SAS and damn $$$$.... thinking LT, but the cam thingy holders are bent. Someone said chop a driver side frame and weld it onto mine. Not sure I wanna do all that mess. Lol

 

LT isn't really much cheaper than SAS... Hell, I'm thinking it's more expensive right about now

What's the new injectors and coil packs running you? Fuel filter and pump is newish, the regulator is at the tank right? Only thing under the plenum is the rail and injectors?

How many miles you at Greg? I'm sitting at 265. I can't believe I am already almost at timing belt and water pump shit again.

 

I mean you could replace the whole crossmember if you felt like welding and cutting. Mine I’m considering or simply because the frame mounts are fine. The body’s just ruined

 

Where did you get all of your frame hole plugs? I think I saw you post a few days back about them? Looking to get some for my ride.

 

Leftovers from frame recalls for 3rd gen tacos. Unfortunately finding all the part numbers is a pain since most of mine were loose ones. My guess is ~6 of the larger frame plug kits would cover most of the frame. But the odd ones I’ve used I haven’t been able to pin point

 

Fuel regulator is actually in the engine bay. Kinda behind the upper plenum. For the v6. Just did mine few months ago. Easy job.

 

Could always do a frame swap for one that's straight. From a part out or scrap yard

 

With no rust and a couple friends a frame swap is a days work out there I’d reckon.

 

Pricing is going to depend on the route you go. Junkyard axles are slowly going up in price, and custom housings are looking more and more appealing.

I'm still going to be into LT for less than SAS, but I've still got to 4 link the rear of my truck eventually, which is like another 5k in parts for this stupid truck.

Then don't forget 37s and beadlocks...

Saw it pop up on fleabay and couldn't pass it up.
Complete OEM tow hitch wiring harness (P/N 08921-04861). Packed and shipped from Toyota to dealer on 11/1/2007.
Open box but never used and complete, even down to the wire ties and foam pads.

Will pair nicely with the OEM Class IV hitch
