Taking a little stroll down memory lane; found some pictures of when it was being built; including Marv Lamb in the spray booth and Ren Wall finishing the setup on it. Got to visit it at the factory a couple times while it was being made.

Picked one up for $200. Definitely a better player than it's price tag! Like all new to me guitars, needs a proper setup but that's to be expected.

Oh yeah, always loved the history and mojo of that place in those days; but a pillar of health and safety it was not, lol. Haven't been there in quite a while, I've heard the new owners have done quite a bit of work in that regard.

Did an entire fret level, recrown, and polish this weekend. Getting better at crowning with a 3 sided file. I still haven't found a dedicated fret crown file I like.

Got a fun little challenge over the weekend - a local blues player asked if I could help convert an old console tube radio into a harmonica amp.

Most likely this is going to be a full strip and scratch rebuild. Lot's of extra stuff in this circuit that's not needed for the intended purpose, and that's before considering the leaking caps and a couple of toasted resistors. Likely going to keep it PTP construction, and re-use as much of the original parts as I can (aside from things that are at or near end of their life).

That's one project I have never taken on. Coverting an old P A or radio etc.. into an amp. If I ever find something worth doing this with I will.

So I don't frequent the non-taco questions that often, but this caught my eye.

Yes, I play! I am awful and don't practice enough. But I persist.

I have two guitars. A Godin SDxt from 2004, and an Epiphone AJ-15NA from 1999. I have a few amps and effects. Main one: Orange Crush CR20LDx. Portable: Orange Crush Mini. Old school: Silvertone 135 XL with a single 12" cab. Pedal board includes a homebuilt clone of a Distortion+, a Small Clone chorus, and a Timmy.

Played a Godin this weekend. It was like a Gibson ES175. I liked it.

They are rather nice guitars. Pricing seems more in line with what you are getting rather than paying for the name. My SD was one of their cheapy models and it had been my main gigging axe during the Broken LP stretch. It's an HSS (SD Pearly Gates/Cool Rail/Hot Rail). The stock P/u's were a little anemic, but expected on a $300 guitar.

When I bought it I wasn't sure whether my preferred playing style would lean toward single coil or humbuckers. The SDxt has HSH config and even without coil splits let me have some single coil tone if I want it. Turns out I'm more of a humbucker guy anyway. I've done a few minor repairs/mods, but I need to have a luthier do a full new setup on it because I can't get rid of a fret buzz on the low E without going to stupidly high action, and I'm not sure why.

Overall though, I'm very happy with the Godin. I would say you easily get the quality of a guitar that from other manufacturers, especially big names, would cost 2+ times as much. I've only recently been thinking about picking up a second electric, I need to get my hands on a Yamaha Revstar Standard and see if it feels as good to play as it looks like it does. Twin humbuckers and hardtail bridge would be nice for a lot of what I play now. I'd still keep the Godin.

I am also looking for one more inexpensive guitfiddle. I have the sneaky suspicion that I will be trying out one of the Harley Benton DC Junior models. single P90 with a Split. At quite literally 10% of what a Gibby DC LPJR runs.

After looking a bit deeper, HB is not exactly known for their High End pickups. They offer the P90 with a coil tap, HOWEVER!! The aftermarket for a tappable P90 with dogears is a very small nearly non existent market. Very few if any option to upgrade. May render the Coil tap PP Tone pot to be useless if upgrading the P/U.
    If'n anyone in interested....

Neck mounted. This my first attempt at drilling and mounting a bolt on neck. I initially was going to use a drill press, but opted for a drill guide instead.

saw an interesting means to help seat the neck on YT. string it up, tune it then back off a touch. loosen 2 of the bolts just slightly from completely tight. not enough to allow the neck to separate for the body. then tune back up and slightly loosen the other 2 bolts. If there is any space in the neck pocket at all, you will hear a slight click as the tension from the strings pulls the neck in to the pocket as far as it will go. retighten!
Hope it helps if you weren't already aware. numerous vids avail for reference.
Looks better every time you post a new one!!
