I got a rather unfair comment that was deleted about my trucks. To be fair, I'm 45 have two kids 9 and 11. We have been very modest in our life. The last time I bought a truck for me was in 07. My sport. My wifes Subaru outback was stolen in 2021. It was no loss. I found her, the dream truck of her life. Then covid. After driving her 20214runner I started to want a newer taco. She agreed. I made an epic mistake and bought an auto transmission after never personally owning one in my life. After 1 year, 14000 miles I love love love my lime pro. But if I buy a car ever few decades I want what I want. So the EML auto is actually for sale.


And no, ive never even lived in California. Let alone got a paycheck their. My family are cattle ranchers and dryland wheet farmers. We settled the riff canyon around 1800. We have old abandoned grain silos with our family name on them that predate ww2. Not sure why I felt the need to justify my existence to who ever you were. But toyota is our family hobby. Buying and braking them.

well, the mortgage payment is about the same as rent was. It won't go up like rent does which is a plus

If your property taxes and insurance go up then yes it will go up. (Escrow)
But owning is way better than feeding a dead dog…

 

My house payment has been the same for the last 23 years. Much cheaper than rent and it has been useful for equity/credit related things. It's true that you have to replace things occasionally, but in the last 23 years I've only replaced the water heater and the dishwasher. Replaced the stove when I moved in but that was an upgrade from electric to gas, actually saved a good chunk of change over the last couple decades by doing that.

The only "benefit" of renting is being a bit more fluid in the ability to pack up your shit and move to another crappy rental.

 

lol yeah taxes are a fun one. The county appraised my house at exactly 33pct more than I paid for it like a week after I moved in so paying more taxes was an immediate gift. That was a fun letter to get

My insurance and taxes have gone up the last 3yrs, and ive added some upgrades, but owning is so worth it..
Plus i have a shitload of equity

 

Obviously, I know it's not official but per redfin, my house resell has gone down. Probably due to the interest rates. Does this play anything into property taxes or will they always base that off the highest point your house was valued?

 

The county does their own appraisal separate from whatever you paid for it or the market comps AFAIK. I looked into contesting it and everyone I talked to said it was a waste of time/money
