Intermittent Vibration?

I am bashing my head in trying to figure out this vibration. It is at higher speeds (from 45 to 70+) but off and on.. Almost like the road surface makes it better or worse.

This was worse when I had my old tires and wheels. I bought brand new BFG Ats and eagle rims.. Lifted it with bilstein 5100s and a AAL.. It was good for a while. Then I got my new frame.. It was still fine for a while. Then all of a sudden..

Thought it was balance but Ive had them rebalanced 2 different places several times.. Checked for out of round.. Nothing... Had the front end checked for wear.. Nothing.. Bought new rack bushings... Nothing.. Someone said it could be internal in the rack? I have new inner and outer tie rods..

My other issue is that the slip shaft in the steering column has some play as they all do..

So sorry for the story.. any ideas??

 

Does the frame replacement have a warrantee (the labor) ?

In other words.... If it does (labor) - take it back and have Toyota check everything to make sure nothings came loose.

 

where do you feel the vibration more......thru the steering wheel....or thru the floor board? does it feel like its in the front or the back?

 

I assume you got it aligned correct? Ucas may help

 

Does it do it when its in 4wd? If it goes away in 4wd, then its a bearing in your front diff. Theres a couple threads on it on the 1st gen and 2nd gen forums. Next time you go for a drive, put it in 4wd and see if you can reproduce the vibrations.

 

Did that last summer after I had a clunk when I made sharp turns. One of the alignment adjustments took a 1/4 turn. Noise went away

You can feel and see it in the wheel

Yes its been aligned several times since.. Upper control arms ever though it was fine when the lift was put in?

not sure if it does it in 4wd... I have only used the 4wd maybe up to 40mph max.. I avoid highways because of all this..

 

Might want to check all of your ujoints on the driveshafts for any kind of play.

May actually need to get the tires road force balanced......its possible one may be out of round.

 

I brought it to Townfair Tire and they roadforce balanced them.. Said nothing was out of round and they actually eliminated alot of the weights

 

Well....if you have any lift.........could be the cv angle.

 

Whats weird is it did it before the lift..

Would the play in the steering make it seem better or worse?? I am trying to find the preload adjustments for the rack itself.

 

once again, does the vibration go away when you put it into 4wd?

I thought you said from 45-70? should be okay if you do it for a few seconds on a straight road. If the vibration goes away, then you'll know it's a front diff issue. The effect is immediate.

Trust me.. these drivelines aren't that delicate where you can't do a couple of seconds in 4wd on dry pavement in a straight line..

 

I will try it when the highway is wet..
