    Good Morning Porchatonians!!

What a time to be talking about Generators.
Prepping for the wind/rain storm Friday.

Will hook the cable up Thursday night.
Bad trees down the road so might be isolated, power and access, for a few days..

So much crap going on right now. Gggrrrrrrr

I'm sure you know this... Let your generator spool up completely before you connect any loads. You could pop a rectifier, otherwise.

Today is the first day of winter, shortest day of the year.
I decided to buy myself an early Christmas present but probably wont take delivery of it until some time in January, then it will get plugged into a battery tender in the garage until spring.

I had to purchase it while they had the color I wanted, bikes have been as hard to find as cars and trucks.

    Good morning all.

Congrats to @woodtickgreg on the new ride. I like the classic styling but with the modern parts. Triumph makes a nice bike.

Sticking with the Clint Eastwood logic of "A man's got to know his limitations" I have never ridden a motorbike. That said I always thought if I got one it would be a Triumph. Beautiful styling, enjoy!

Not as large as the B&O museum in Baltimore but filled with interesting early RR artifacts. The original buildings sure do reflect the smaller size of men and women back then. There is no admission, but they do ask for a donation. The museum is worth the visit. Parking was hard to find but it was a holiday weekend before Christmas and Ellicott City is a popular shopping destination.

Sounds like a capacitor is discharging.

Sounds like you dodged a bad service provider.

    Billy, welcome to the thread.

When I worked for a bank, we had two generators powering the data center. We also had a bank of batteries, 330 wet cells, that powered the data center for the 15 minutes it took for the generators to turn on sync up in phase and come online to power the data center. Interesting process and installation.

Good morning. Yesterday was a busy cooking day. Cooked up a 1 rib Prime rib roast and made a tomato soup. Dry brined the roast a new way and the first time I made tomato soup. Both were delicious. Early dinner tonight and we are headed to DC to see the National Christmas tree.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/storm preppers. I might be pushing my luck but for this upcoming storm I'm placing my full faith in the new Generac sitting outside. Although I did keep the old generator. And there is gas in the cans. :)
What did the mice do to your Honda? Mine recently got moved into the shed, where mice are a constant issue. I'd hate to go out there and find it ruined!

My last office location was at a data center. We had a similar setup, which got significantly beefed up after we had several power outages one year. FOUR! huge diesel generators, gigantic fuel tanks, a football field sized room full of batteries, a fearsome looking wall of transfer switches. Easily the most impressive looking setup in the facility. Well, that and the exit signs down at floor level...!

Speaking of my old job, my manager emailed me yesterday asking if I had by any chance kept copies of some of the code I wrote and maintained when I worked there. Apparently they lost the code, my guess being that they shut down some older lab servers without taking inventory of what was on them. I gave everything back when I retired, and although I kept backups I did not keep them locally anyway. So I was no help. The strange part was how far removed I felt from the whole thing -- I've been gone less than a year but it feels like a lifetime. I don't miss it one bit.

I had a 67 650 that looked very similar. The brakes were pretty weak, and the carburetors were junk, but overall fun bike. Nice wide bars were very comfortable.

Not mine, but exact same bike/same colors.

Prior to my retirement from state government, one of the areas I was involved in was the medical marijuana program. We were at one of the grower sites which was indoor. It was across the road from the city waste treatment plant. The backup generator at the grower (to power heat and grow lights) was bigger than the generator to power the sewage plant.

A little something every chance we get.
:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! One day left before the freeze of Christmas. No bad weather accompanying, and at least it's supposed to be sunny.
Generator sits in the garage, useless except for extension cord service in extreme emergencies. Heard back from the GenerLink folks and.....no surprise, City of Lockhart is NOT on the approved list. I will be petitioning the Permitting Department for it's inclusion! It's the perfect thing for me, because I think half the guys I contacted were really scared off because of solar connections. This thing simplifies that issue. So, :fingerscrossed:. At least the fireplace insert works real well, and ERCOT says Texas won't have any problems. :D

So, welcome to the Porch @picturethis , nice bike @woodtickgreg , and how do you find time to cook all that AND do all that running around @95SLE?

So, pic of Rex wondering why I'm doing my list and not playing with him?
