toytec lift kitsss, which one to get?

Hello boys!

i've been doing countless hours of research on this subject and everytime i've made up my mind about what lift kit to get, something else comes up that confuses me all over again.

i own a 06 prerunner TRD and i'd like to give it at least a 2.5-3 inch lift. mainly for looks but, the occasional off-roading will take place-nothing too crazy.

i'm really interested in the lift kits that toytec has to offer, especially the ones with the bilstein shocks.

can anyone point me in the right direction of which kit would benefit me the most?

for example, i don't understand why one kit is a little over $1000 and the other one is around $650. . what's the difference?

oh, not to mention i'd like to get bigger tires but, which ones should i get without having to do any "trimming".

New 18" XD Monster wheels with a 4.5" backspace and a set of P285/60/18 Nitto Terra Grappler tires....Toyteclifts 3in coil and add a leaf. totally happu with my $299.99 Coil,spacer and add a leaf from toytec. truck looks great and ride smoother then stock...

 

The most popular method of lifting (from my view) on this forum is to have the rear TSB done, or add-a-leaf (AAL) to the rear spring. That will give you 1.75" or so lift. Then install Bilstein 5100 shocks on the front and either set them at 1.75" for a slightly raked truck, or 2.5" for a mostly level truck.

TSB is free if you can convince Toyota you need it, and your truck is still under warranty. Otherwise, AAL will cost about $70 (not installed). Front billies run about $100 each. Installation of all this varies shop to shop. (I've seen $350 to $900 on this site.)

You will then be able to go with a larger size tire, but you still may need to trim the mud flaps. It depends on what size you want to go with.
A popular 16" tire that most people use is 265/75.
A popular 17" tire that most people is is 265/70.
Even those sized may require some trimming, but any larger and you will probably need to remove your mud flaps.

If you don't need the TSB you don't need the TSB. You would know what the issue was if you needed it

 

I took the printed TSB in and complained about the ride with a half load (my motorcycle) in the bed. They ordered the new leaf packs and installed them the next week. No arguments at all. This was Bill Dube Toyota in Dover, NH.

some peeps are even trying to convince me not to do it because it might not be a good idea.

Oh, to stay on topic... I am looking at the same kit as Mtnbker343 for the 3" lift. After all the reading here, it seems to be the one that offers the best bang for the buck, the best ride afterward and isn't really difficult to install. The general thought is the medium coils and be sure to get the TSB AAL if you've had the leaf packs installed. ToyTec is awesome because even swapping options to suit your needs, the price remains the same. OME3-05-AL is the $299 kit.

Understood, but she could have had it done back when she was still eligible right? Or, if she got the truck used, it could have been done prior to?

 

I would consider this kit if my truck wasn't a street queen and I wanted to do more off-roading. Here, I own a 4x4 out of necessity meaning over 4' of snow this year...

all, i know is that i rescued this truck from being taken back to the dealer and everything is stock on it.

 

We were discussing the technical service bulletin (TSB) for the "Rough ride with heavy load" where they replace the rear spring packs with a 4 leaf pack that is much stiffer and actually lifts the truck 1.75" in the rear. That is what I had them replace on my truck, hence the "motorcycle in the back" comment above.

 

That is an excellent kit. (so I hear). But then you might have to do more stuff.

^^ The way you can get away from all the problems since you have a prerunner are to get spindles in the front. This keeps your stock geometry up front so you dont have to get uca or any other problems. And in the back just get a new all pro leaf pack.
