    only getting worse. i wouldn't have been out but it was butt pokin' day. ran to the grocery store afterwards so i could grab emergency provisions. there was a semi truck stuck across the railroad tracks. thankfully he got freed up before any trains came through. coulda been nasty
    i guess the managers told everyone who does work in the office to go ahead and bring their laptops home tonight and just work from home tomorrow unless they absolutely had to be in the office for some reason

    nope.
    the local news was talking about the weather and how the schools who aren't on winter break yet are shutting down due to the cold. the last time schools out right closed due to cold was 1989. and it was the only time i remember school closing for the cold. the rules then - not sure if its the same now - were that school only closed if it was -50* or colder WITHOUT windchill. we did indoor recess in the gym once it got to -20 :laugh:

    i started a project - well planning anyways - to do what's called a temperature quilt. each square in the first two rows represent the daily highs and lows for my city in January, 3rd and 4th rows are February and so on. I had started with 12 colors representing a 10* window each. That covered everything from 105* to -15* and figured that would suffice. I just added colors 13 and 14 for this week. Might need to add yet another. Or go back and redo everything to account for more than 10* per color. this is what i got so far...

    I was over your way one weekend in winter maybe five or six years ago. Took the younger boys to a USTA tennis tournament (the tournament itself was in Portage, I think). Tons of snow. But, I'll tell you what, sitting in the front of Crow's Nest, shoveling down that Master-at-Arms scramble and drinking really good coffee while watching the snow fall...made it tolerable. Almost enjoyable even. :) Man, I love Crow's Nest; now I'm kind of pining for it! I took a bunch of the Heritage fans there during the second-to-last Parsons Street Pilgrimage thing. Nobody left disappointed.
